About this listen
My colleague Elodie thinks I despise her. In fact, she’s owned my heart since the first time I caught sight of her slim white neck.
Monday to Friday, I’m the grumpy Head of History. Zero personality, except when I’m teaching. So passionate about my field that my pupils bought me a highly inappropriate t-shirt last year. I HAVE A HARD-ON FOR REVISIONIST HISTORY, if you must know.
It’s only on Saturdays, when I play Henry VIII at Hampton Court Palace for over-exuberant tourists, that I channel His Majesty’s swagger. Think with my codpiece, if you like. At school, I stay the hell away from Elodie. Because nothing good can come from my obsession.
But when I make her my Anne Boleyn at the weekend, I can’t control the things going on under that codpiece. Or the filth that comes out of my mouth.
Monday to Friday, she’s my colleague. On Saturday, she’s my queen.

The Rest is History is a steamy, opposites attract, workplace romance with plenty of historical spice.

Sara Madderson, is a new Author to me, but this story is so different to my usual small American town kind of romance.
The Story follows two history teachers, who work at a very posh English Country School. While they don't have much interaction in the beginning Monday to Friday, at the weekend they dress up and play Henry the 8th and Anne Boleyn for tourists at Hampton Court Palace. This story is hot and so laugh out loud funny, I urge anyone to download it immediately, you won't regret it, its so refreshingly different, and just what I was looking for to get me out of a audiobook slump.
I'm watching out for more from Sara Madderson, well worth the credit
EXCEPTIONAL, DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!

I had a real soft spot for Elodie from the very beginning. I just wanted to wrap her in a blanket and protect her. She was so endearing and earnest, and really had so much love to give. Charlie clearly cared for her deeply, although it did take him some time to work through his own emotional baggage, mainly stemming from a difficult previous relationship.
That said, I was not entirely on board with the third act breakup. It happened right after Elodie had met Charlie’s family, and I found it quite frustrating. I understand that Charlie was still carrying emotional wounds from his past, but the way it played out felt unnecessarily harsh. I genuinely wanted to shake some sense into him at that point.
The audiobook narration, performed as a duet by Zara Hampton-Brown and Shane East, was an absolute treat. They brought so much warmth and personality to Charlie and Elodie!
A delightful historical romance with heart and heat!
