About this listen

Acclaimed, best-selling author Lori Wick’s The Proposal is a moving tale of Christ’s love at work in early 19th-century London. William Jennings is not married and likes it that way. But when a relative passes away, he is suddenly guardian of three young children. This unexpected development provides him a male heir without the bother of a wife, yet the children quickly become more than he can handle. Finding help from a truly remarkable woman, he learns to see the world in a completely different light.

A sweet, romantic, Christian story. I enjoyed the whole story a fair bit though the narration could have been a little better and some of the Christian beliefs I found a little Victorian/inaccurate/on the strict side. Overall a pleasant story.

This is an enjoyable read. It is hard to find good, Christian fiction and I am happy to have discovered this author. If I had a criticism it would be that some of the words and phrases don't use English upper class phraseology. I think the term 'drawing-room' would be more appropriate than 'salon' and it would be most unlikely for a child to use 'Mum' to address their mother. Far more likely would be the form 'Mother'.

Good Storyline with Strong Christian Emphasis

1810 London, England. William Jennings has never been interested in marriage and family. So when a relative dies and leaves Jennings three young children, his world turns upside down.

Thrilled to have boys to carry on his name, William invests time in the two brothers, but the little girl is tended to by a negligent nanny. Finally, Jennings seeks help from his sister and soon becomes acquainted with her neighbor, Marianne Walker. Her strength and faith intrigues Jennings, but will he allow himself to fall for her and the God she loves?

My comments:

I love this authors writing, I read her rocky mountain memories books a few years a go and loved them. This was slightly different however it was really good. I loved the way William became more open minded and Marianne was a lovely character to. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Lovely story and looking forward to more.
