When a major client of the firm, David Child, is arrested for murder, the FBI ask con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn to secure Child as his client and force him to testify against the firm. Eddie's not a man to be forced into representing a guilty client, but the FBI have incriminating files on Eddie's wife, Christine, and if Eddie won't play ball, she'll pay the price.

When Eddie meets David Child, he knows Child is innocent despite the overwhelming evidence against him. With the FBI putting pressure on him to secure the plea, Eddie must find a way to prove Child's innocence while keeping his wife out of danger - not just from the FBI but from the firm itself.

I got this book because it was in the 2-1 promo as I had finished all the other books I normally read. I am so glad I did I am hooked the story had twists and turns all away through right up to the last line.

I will now read all the other in the series. Adam Sims brings the story to life and now I will look at other books narrated by him.

yet another brilliant novel in the Eddie Flynn series and excellently narrated.
I'm totally hooked on this series and just love the bad boy turned kinda good that is Flynn.
can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

Eddie Flynn. A Lawyer. A Hustler. A Con Artist. A Star...

He’s in between a rock and a hard place. Because quite frankly, there is no one to trust. His client has been framed, but there’s no way to prove it, because everyone who could help: The NYPD, The DA, The CIA & The FBI, all seem to be working against not only him, but each other! Then there’s the Mafia, his wife’s law firm and his wife!

Did I mention his assortment of friends/helpers? The Lizard? Beau? the deaf guy? CBS? No? Oh, well, they’ll introduce themselves...

In the end, this is a very clever story, a very clever story within the story and a very interesting, engrossing read. Definitely a lawyer worth keeping your eye on.

I listen to Audio books to fall asleep or I did before I found Steve Cavanagh's books. They're so thrilling they keep me awake! The stories are brill and you route for Eddie Flynn like you know him. Adam Sims reads the books expertly and like he was made for the role. I cannot fault the writing or narration. Keep it up guys!

Book 2 as good as the Book 1 (The Defence) fantastic and just could not stop listening. Audible performance 1st rate

A really good story, an underdog, an impossible case, dark forces conspiring.., this is a great read. The type of story where you want the narrator to read quicker, but at the same time you don't want it to be over too quickly. Great characters, too. I'll be getting the others in the Eddie Flynn series.
Recommended.
