About this listen

She thinks she’s escaped. She thinks she’s safe…

Helen has had to leave everything she’s ever known behind; her home, her family, even her own name.

Now, returning to the UK as Ellen Newman, she moves to a small coastal village, working as a nanny for Donovan, a criminal psychologist. Attractive, caring and protective, this single father and his sweet daughter are a world away from Ellen’s brutal past.

But Ellen can’t shake the feeling that something’s wrong.

Strange incidents begin to plague her new family, and their house of calm is about to become one of suspicion and fear.

Who can be trusted? Who is the target? Who is closing in?

Started out as a promising psychological thriller then developed into a glorified romance. Ok but not really my cup of tea.

Ok romance!

This was my first experience of Sue Fortin's writing. Although a good storyline, I guessed the offenders very early on. The pinnacle of the story, however, was rounded up very quickly in the last two chapters, almost leaving a key part uncovered.
I found the Narrator a little bit monotone in places.

A Worthy Read

I loved this story, especially the ending. The narrator makes the book a lovely listening experience.

There was so much missing from this Romantic Thriller. Disappointed that we didn't get more about the main character's backstory including more of the planning process and decision making- yes the odd bit was slipped in here and there but not enough so we could get to know her and what made her tick. The Romance seemed to spring out of nowhere even though you could see it coming. There wasn't enough of a build up for you to get why he didn't kick her and the grief she brought to his otherwise peaceful and orderly life out on her arse. The eight year old was babied- in one part she needed help to undo and do up her clothing. And most 8 year olds: engage in independent reading and perhaps read books to mum and dad. All the characters were very underdeveloped including Amanda, Toby and Carla. The end couldn't come soon enough for me. it was a shame cos it really could have been an excellent tale of love. Finally I really hated the narrator she made a cheesy read into to something quite cringey and hard to listen to. I will be avoiding this narrator rather than the author.

2* only because I think it could have been a good
