About this listen

The Devil comes to Moscow, but he isn't all bad; Pontius Pilate sentences a charismatic leader to his death, but yearns for redemption; and a writer tries to destroy his greatest tale, but discovers that manuscripts don't burn. Multi-layered and entrancing, blending sharp satire with glorious fantasy, The Master and Margarita is ceaselessly inventive and profoundly moving. In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

I've read The Master and Margarita twice, but it's such a complex story that I thought I would still get a lot out of listening to it as an audiobook. In fact, I listened to it twice in quick succession - and it just gets better each time. Julian Rhind-Tutt's narration is superb, very sympathetic to the nuances of all the characters. This gets a massive recommendation from me.

My favourite book, brilliantly read

I'm re-reading again after 25 years. This has actually got better, not aged at all. Julian Rhind-Tutt gives a bravura performance, especially as the Woland and slap stick behemoth & Korovyev. I had many strange looks in my car from other motorists while I giggled and lol at Behemoth antics, surely the greatest fictional feline character??

Hallucinatory and hilarious book, highly recommend

What a crazy story. It’s difficult to summarise it, but it was very enjoyable and wild and funny. The reading of it is just excellent, especially Behemoth’s voice.

Surreal, and well read!

I've read 'Master and Margarita' multiple times before as I truly love the story. This was my first time listening to it in English and what a performance it is! Highly recommended! I will definitely be coming back to this version.

Pure gold

Unusual and imaginative, I enjoyed escaping into the created worlds. Interesting that it inspired Rolling Stones (Sympathy For The Devil)and Bowie.

Worth a listen

I've had a hard copy of this book for years and never got past the first few chapters. Having it read to me was just the job and very enjoyable. I've got a few Audible titles narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt and I could listen to him reading the back of a cereal packet. One of the absolute best in the business.

5 stars all round

loved it. the narrator was excellent and the story so magical and wonderful. Delightful fun escapism within a unique tale, that compares to nothing I have read before.

Absolutely phenomenal narration. I had been trying to read this book so many times but ultimately I would have gotten lost in the story and characters; Julian Rhind-Tutt made this book come to live.

Phenomenal narration!
