Paul Doherty has the ability to take the reader to the time and place the books are set in. Historically accurate, the books are a companion to understanding the period as well as exploring the murkier side of medieval life with a great storyline!

Once again Paul Doherty has got it right, brother Athelstan is facing even more complicated murders. I love the history. I just wish Doherty would write some more of the pilgrimage series.

These have been so good and with the sad demise of Terry Wale I just wonder who could read them now. The narrator has to be good and make it sound like it really is the early 1380s. A 'modern' narration just wouldn't sound right.
This book has followed all the previous ones in terms of how good they are. Paul Doherty really knows how to take you into the medieval times.

Paul Doherty never fails to impress with his storyline, narrative and in depth knowledge of medieval England. Always woven into the thread of historical fact and actual events, his grasp of human weakness and our capacity for doing evil to one another is amazing. Every volume a listening 'page turner', whether it is the sorrowful Brother Athelstan, Master Hugh Corbett or the venerable Lord Amerotke. All of whom, I very soon hope to hear from in their Audible volumes.
