About this listen

The remarkable new Sunday Times bestselling novel from the author of the international sensation The Midnight Library

‘A beautiful novel full of life-affirming wonder and imagination' BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

'What looks like magic is simply a part of life we don’t understand yet . . .'

When retired Maths teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan.

Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the Balearics Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life, and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed. But to dive into this impossible truth, Grace must first come to terms with her past.

Filled with wonder and wild adventure, this is a story of hope and the life-changing power of a new beginning.©2024 Matt Haig (P)2024 Canongate Books Ltd

Facinating

Beautifully read by Joanna Lumley
A fascinating story of the supernatural & the importance of life & the universe with an excellent description of mathematics

Superb Narration

Despite the ‘otherworldly” story arc, it was rather predictable. However, excellent narration and many thought-provoking moments on how we can process pain and the past and how we respond to it. Written by someone who understands that.

Stand out characters and beautifully read

How Matt Haig manages to create and portray these characters is incredible. I assume he has never been a 72 year old widowed woman(?!), but the way he shares her inner thoughts, is as though he’s lived her life and a thousand others. Always reminding us of the beauty of human nature in a modern way. This and all books by this author fill me with hope.
Expertly performed by Joanna Lumley, just to cap off my favourite read of 2024!

Loved the setting

Loved the setting having just come back from 10 days in Ibiza! The profoundness became a bit much at the end and might have been more impactful through a single message as opposed to lots of ‘things with meanings’…

Good narration

Too dragged out and abstract . The first half is funny and mysterious but the drama died out for me

Did not disappoint

I love Mat Haigs books .. because they mix the ordinary with the extraordinary in a most lyrical way . This one did not disappoint and the story and the wonderful narration added up to one of the best audible experiences so far .
