Summary
‘A beautiful novel full of life-affirming wonder and imagination' BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH
'What looks like magic is simply a part of life we don’t understand yet . . .'
When retired Maths teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan.
Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the Balearics Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life, and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed. But to dive into this impossible truth, Grace must first come to terms with her past.
Filled with wonder and wild adventure, this is a story of hope and the life-changing power of a new beginning.

Another great story from Matt Haig
I loved The Midnight Library so much it made me very excited to listen to this and I was not disappointed. It’s a story that deals with love , grief , guilt and many other things. The narration by Joanna Lumley really brought the story to life and I see Joanna as Grace in a tv or film adaptation. The blurb for this novel does not give away where the plot goes and I couldn’t have imagined going the way it did and it was a great surprise. I highly recommended this book, another great book by Matt Haig.

Life Affirming
Matt Haig has a way of writing that speaks to your soul. His writing challenges his readers and makes them think. His ability to capture the essence of what it means to be human is compelling and the imagery in this book really brings the setting to life. I might have to visit Ibiza.

good story, think I would have liked it more if someone else had read it
while I LOVE Joanna Lumley I don't think she was right for fussy person narration of retired maths teacher from Midlands. story was engaging and personally I love a bit of magical realism

Unusual story line
Enjoyed the novelty of the main character being an older woman
Joanna Lumley narration was pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed this book.

Distracted by cut glass voice, but compelling narrative
I love Joanna Lumley, but she wasn’t the right choice for this character and I wasn’t able to believe in her being a maths teacher. Too plummy. But delivered very professionally.
The narrative is compelling if verging on a little preachy and at some points a travel log.
I wasn’t as invested and transported as I was by midnight library.
A sound story, entertaining.

Joanna Lumley’s silky smooth voice is heaven
It started quite slowly but the story built well. The end was good and I like the way the loose threads were tied at the end.

What a beautiful and educational story
In a gloomy world with war, hunger and a climate crisis so severe that it looks impossible for humanity to survive, this wonderful novel offers a glimpse of hope and the famous light at the end of the tunnel.

Impossible, or is it?
Matt delivers another life-affirming story, with just a pinch of the super natural.
national treasure Joanna Lumley really brings the protagonist, Grace, to life.
