About this listen

Having been booked to give a talk at Fethering Library, successful author Burton St Clair invites his old friend Jude to come along. Although they haven't met for 20 years, Jude is not surprised to find that St Clair hasn't changed, with his towering ego and somewhat shaky relationship with the truth.

What Jude hadn't been suspecting, however, was that the evening would end in sudden, violent death. More worrying, from Jude's point of view, is the fact that the investigating police officers seem to be convinced that she herself was responsible for the crime. With the evidence stacking up against her, Jude enlists the help of her neighbour Carole.

As usual Simon Brett comes up trumps with a ood romp which has plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing.

Good lockdown listen

Always think I have got the answer only to find the twist in the tail. Have been so enjoying these books during lockdown but sadly I think I am reaching the end of Carol and Jude’s adventure.....so far?

Well written and very enjoyable

I enjoyed this book. I have read quite a few of these now and I can’t predict who dunnit! I do enjoy this series of Simon Brett books as they don’t take themselves too seriously but at the same time you don’t have to suspend belief too far either. And they’re not massively gorey, which is a good thing.

Relaxing to listen to.

Love all the feathering books. Simon Brett is an excellent author and narrator. Although modern, with mobile phones and laptops, it feels like an older, more sedate era.

Another feathering gem

Simon Brett is superb ,again. His plotting and characters never disappoint and his style is intelligent and witty.more please!

Always a pleasure

Difficult to get beyond the irritating smug narration and his terrible accents (e.g. a UK man trying to sound like a US woman is cringeworthy). The dialogue is often really annoying - it doesn’t sound like real people talking - and his characters are so overblown & stereotyped. Yawn. The one good thing about this is that, if you slow down his voice, it’s good to fall asleep to.

Very irritating narration

Really irritating book. Too much sermonising and an unbelievable ending. Was also distracted by loud breathing through his nose. Struggled to finish it then sorry I bothered.

Waste of time and money
