About this listen

In the depths of winter, a killer stalks the city streets. His victims are two young women, both found with twenty-four inexplicable puncture wounds, both drowned in their own blood. The crime scenes offer no clues, the media is reaching fever pitch, and the police are running out of options. There is only one man who can help them, and he doesn’t want to be found. Deeply traumatised by The Snowman investigation, which threatened the lives of those he holds most dear, Inspector Harry Hole has lost himself in the squalor of Hong Kong’s opium dens. But with his father seriously ill in hospital, Harry reluctantly agrees to return to Oslo. He has no intention of working on the case, but his instinct takes over when a third victim is found brutally murdered in a city park.

The victims appear completely unconnected to one another, but it’s not long before Harry makes a discovery: the women all spent the night in an isolated mountain hostel. And someone is picking off the guests one by one. A heart-stopping thriller from the bestselling author of the The Snowman, The Leopard is an international phenomenon that will grip you until the final page.

This was the first Jo Nesbo book I listened to, having enjoyed the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. I was a little concerned after hearing the very gruesome first chapter, but luckily the rest of the story was not so bad, though it had it's moments. I then went back to the earliest Harry Hole book that was available on audible and have been listening to them in order from there. I am now listening to The Leopard again, before going on to the latest Harry Hole, just released, The Phantom.
Each book does stand on it's own but the progression is very interesting and there are some plot spoilers in later books referring to previous ones.
Sean Barrett narrates them beautifully.

Gripping, but try to read the books in order.

I think I this is probably my favourite Jo Nesbø story from the ‘Harry Hole’ series so far!

Brilliantly dark and intricate storyline excellently narrated

I love the Harry Hole books and Sean Barrett is absolutely the king! Always such brilliant plots. Secretly wish Harry was sober though, but that's the romantic in me!

Fantastic!

Nesbo is in a class of his own. We can devour as many books as he can turn out. I feel as if I know Harry inside out!

fabulous as always

I agree with most of the positive reviews about this book, but be warned, it is VERY explicit in terms of what was done to the victims. I'm an ex-nurse and can stomach most things, but I struggled with this at times... I guess it's a testament to the writer's descriptive skills! So, yes, it's very gripping and keeps you guessing to the end. I love Sean Barrett's style, too.

a cracking read but rather gory

Another brilliant book, told with great aplomb by Sean Barrett (who else could tell Harry’s stories?).
Throughly recommended.

A MasterClass in story telling.

This is the first audiobook I got when I signed up to Audible.
So I wasn't sure what to expect, but I absolutely loved it! The story is gripping, with interwoven plot lines. A classic who-dunnit, with modern day themes. I couldn't stop listening to it. On the way to work, at work (during my more mundane tasks!), on the way home, in the evening.... I think it took me a week to get through, so addictive.
I also love the narrator's voice and intonation. He lulls you into the story as easily as if you were reading. He does different character's voices quite well too. I have no experience with narrators, but I thought this guy was perfect.
Very highly recommend!
