Summary

The full release of The Last Town serial, with new original content!

It started in the Middle East. A flu-like plague that infected thousands and killed roughly 10 percent of its victims. Those who died awoke once again, but they were no longer among the living - they came back as soulless, carnivorous corpses who desired only one thing: to feed on living human flesh.

As the infection spread, across Europe and the rest of the globe, cities were overwhelmed. Nations fell. Humanity flickered like a candle flame in the wind.

In the United States: the nation's great cities are becoming hunting grounds. New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles.... All are falling victim to hordes of shambling dead who want only one thing: to devour the living.

Single Tree, California, is a small resort town in Inyo County. Between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, it's easy to overlook. And that's exactly what the citizens of Single Tree want, for the stenches and those fleeing them to ignore the town long enough for it to be transformed into a desert fortress at the foot of Mount Whitney.

But time is not on their side. Not only do they have to worry about the dead.... they have to fear the living.

need to use sound reduction for better enjoyment

Great story but the background hissing noise on occasion was annoying.and detracted a little from the enjoyment. Otherwise it was a great book and performance.

4.5/5

Solid entry. Really enjoyed it. Believable characters, especially that asshat who owns the shop (I think). Anywho, premise is a bit wobbly - not the zombie bit, but what the billionaire does. Why would he do it? Doesn't matter. He did, and I am glad. Start is ok, middle good, end is good. Enjoyed the battle, especially the problem of zombies stacking - first time I had seen it was in WWZ, but this depiction is better. In the process of listening to it again. Wonder if there is a sequel coming...?

Best Performance

it took me a while to get into this. But the performance was amazing. Story was a good listen, and good character development. I enjoyed how it followed multiple groups too. Looking forward to the rest.

Decent zombie fodder

If you have listened to lots of different zombie books and running out of options this one is worth a go. Bits of humour with classic zombie scenario and a decent story. Some obvious politics within that can be ignored.

Take it or leave it.

Not a bad read/listen. Nothing spectacular just a simple story with loads of shooting and good guys. The standard weasel thrown in for good measure. Oh and a Brit........is this how yanks see us?

The narration was terrible......it was painfully slow and I almost abandoned the book. I switched the speed to 1.25 and that maid it bearable although the switch between storylines could be easily missed.

The narration made it a good book rather than a great book. Worth a listen, just try turning up the speed.

Worth it

At first, I was put off by the narration. I listened to the reviews, though I gave it a chance and I’ll say it’s a fantastic listen. A very unique zombie experience, I really enjoyed the story and it held me throughout.
It feels like a realistic take, slow moving, people still working, jobs etc. Really enjoyed this book and it’s a shame I’ve only found out that it’s a mini series of the original series which I’ll be picking up now.
Yes the narration is different, but overall it’s quite good. Some characters like Barry sound rough but you learn to listen to it.
If you’re a fan of pre apocalypse (and post) pick it up, give it a chance. I’ve no regrets.

Very good story with good characters

Nothing to not like about this book . Good characters and original plot . Think there is mileage in a final book

Good story

The British accents were bloody awful! But I enjoyed it overall. Good zombie story and quite long so lots of depth.
