well read. great performance but I think most importantly is how it tells of struggle for survival and also encountering humanity at its worst. loved this book, at first I was apprehensive because I thought it would be too heavy but there is a good balance between the history or iraq, politics & religion and the story of Nadia.

I sobbed through most of this account of genocide against the Yazidi people. I would just like to know where the world leaders were and if they were asleep when this happened? How on earth did this take place in 2014? There is no excuse for any kind of genocide against minorities in the 21st century. Have they ever heard of Allport's scale of discrimination and genocide obviously not. Every single perpetrator of these crimes and those that supported them should be brought to Justice and I also pray for the Yazidi people of the world and that their culture and religion will flourish I'll be kept alive for many many centuries to come. Nadia Murad is an amazing superhero and a warrior Queen I have an amazing amount of respect for her.

I could not stop listening, what an inspiration this young woman is to humankind. I cannot begin to imagine how awful her world must have been and how she has overcome this to fight for human rights.

Her story represents one of so many heartbreaking, soul destroying stories that need to be told. I’m glad to hear that she was allowed to speak in Canada following the woke campaign to try and stop her. It took courage to tell your story!

The book gives good insight into atrocities done by ISIS. It also shows a life and a mindset of simple life Yazidi people. The mindset of ignorance (the emerging presence of enemy in the region) and helplessness (blaming other parties for not being helped).

One of the saddest stories a human can tell... Story of horrific cruelty. I wish this was just a fiction, but it's so brutally real it hurts. Skilfully written, excellently narrated. 10/10

I read this memoir with great interest from the opening foreward by Amal Clooney. Nadia’s story was insightful at the horrors that existed under ISIS occupation and rule. It was hurtful to know that men can treat women in such a way and be the cause of needless suffering to a group of people, preying on vulnerable women to feel powerful. I’m glad Nadia’s story turned into something positive for her, but her grief and her loss is something no one should have to go through. Thank you Nadia for sharing your story and shedding light on the darkest parts of society.
