كولينز في كتابه هذا يثير الجدل حول دليل الوجود الإلهي من خلال علم الأحياء ، الفيزياء الفلكية ، وعلم النفس وغيرها من التخصصات ويشير في كتابة إلى العديد من المفكرين كالقديس أوغسطين ، ستيفن هوكينغ ، تشارلز داروين ، دوبزنسكي ثيودوسيوس وغيرهم .

كما يقترح الكتاب مفهوم (التصميم الإلهي الحيوي) والذي يسميه BioLogos ومن خلاله يعرب عن الاعتقاد بأن الله هو مصدر كل حياة، وأن الحياة تعبر عن إرادة الله وأن العلم والإيمان هما وجهان لعملة واحدة.
