Summary

An ancient castle. A family curse. Let the mayhem begin.

The wild moors of Scotland, 1904.

Texan rancher Rye Dalreagh, the long lost Dunrannoch heir, has been thrown in the deep end. During what should be the merriest of seasons, he must choose a bride, navigate an ancient curse, avoid being murdered, and try not to fall in love with his manners tutor.

On the run from an unwanted marriage, Ursula assumes the identity of an etiquette teacher and heads to a remote Scottish castle for the Yuletide season, but her 'young charge' turns out to be more than she bargained for.

The Lady's Guide to Mistletoe and Mayhem is a delightfully witty Christmas historical romance with a cozy mystery to solve.

A wonderful interesting romance!

When Ursula‘s father dies and her uncle insist she marries her wimpy cousin Uriel and to make certain she has no choice he sells her fathers business in Hawthorne Howard is in the palm of her hand. He even sells her childhood home so she has nowhere to go but his house. Unfortunately for him he didn’t know who he was dealing with. Ursula catches a train and goes to Scotland hoping to stay with her friend at least for the holidays. All the way there though she needs a governess who tells her of her own plans and as her and the governor sit and drink tea the governors dies of old age. Ursula not wanting to be question text me old lady bag and gets off at her stop and now instead of visiting friends Ursula is a governess. It is while she was walking to the castle that a man on a horse comes up on her freezing to death in the snow. His name is Ryder he is a future girl who is raising taxes with no knowledge of the Scottish roots and this is why he needs a governess to teach him the manners of the high class. It will be a while before us alone knows that he is going to be her charge and not a four-year-old Scally wag. He has to learn the manners of the upper crust pick a wife and find out the root of the curse on the Scottish castle he is to inherit. All of this while fighting the urge to fall in love with Ursula. This book was so good I started listening to it around 9 o’clock at night and didn’t turn it off till after 11 or maybe it was 12? I love Emmanuel de Maupassant books, but I do believe this one was my favorite. I love the narrator the original plot and especially the build up of the romance it is a book I highly recommend!

An excellent historical romance

The main character, Ursula is a clever and headstrong young woman who is slightly naive when it comes to live and lust. She blossoms beautifully throughout the story, growing and discovering herself after reading pages in The Lady's Guide and at the strong hands and steady character of Rye.

Rye is a confident young Texan with a deep sense of duty respect who now finds himself living in a strange country with even stranger traditions. He is about to become Laura to a family who are apparently cursed, and it seems his is losing his heart to his manners tutor.

The Dalreagh family tree is complex but thankfully as Ursula learns which branch goes to who so does the reader, helping drawing you further into the world of Dunrannoch.

As Ursula and Rye becomes closer, they must find out what it who is behind the family curse and avoid the imminent danger it puts them in.

Th is story contains a pretty heavy passionate sex scene. Although things get very hot and steamy, it's completely in keeping and context with both the story and the characters. This is where Ursula lets herself go discovers the pleasure of lust.

Gareth Davies does another excellent job of narrating this tale. He really is a hot to listen to and I always find the narrator can make or break an audio book. Once again, the addition of the sound effects brought a little something extra to the audio version, especially the creepier moments.
