Summary
Anne grows from a delightful child brought up at the court of Edward IV and his queen, Elizabeth Woodville, intimacy and friendship with the family of Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Her life is overturned when her father turns on his former allies, escapes England and invades with an enemy army. Widowed at 14, fatherless, with her mother locked in sanctuary, and her sister a vengeful enemy, Anne faces the world alone.
But fortune's wheel turns once again. Anne plots her escape from her sister's house, finds herself a husband in the handsome young Duke of Gloucester, and marries without permission, in secret. But danger still follows her. She finds that she has a mortal enemy in the most beautiful queen in England. Anne has to protect herself and her precious only son from the treacherous royal court, the deadly royal rival, and even from the driving ambition of her husband - Richard III.

Enjoyable
Where does The Kingmaker's Daughter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's up there with the ones I'd listen to again.
What did you like best about this story?
Even though it is fiction, it's based on a real historical character using historical research and references, so I found it really informative whilst enjoying the authors personal take, relating to the characters thoughts and feelings.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I loved the parts with Richard, as his character has been portrayed very badly through history and this story gave a different perspective on him and his good qualities, whilst subtly leading us to believe he could quite possibly have been bad too.

The kingmakers daughter.
I wish the reader would not say “are” but OUR as it should be. The story was good, I did enjoy the whole apart from the grammar.

Narration.
Mispronunciation of Latin a little irritating, but story and narration superb. An interesting slant on the events and character of Richard.

Bought this after watching the tv show the white queen. An amazing compelling story and the voice actor sounds like tge acter who played anne in the show so that was a plus. A muat read in my opinion

Fascinating ideas
I have read a few of Philippa Gregory’s books and, in general, enjoy them. This story is particularly fascinating as it not only introduces the views of women at court but tells history from the side that ultimately loses. I certainly view Richard III differently now. Some of the text is repetitive. But the narrator does a fantastic job and I will look for more of her work

Enjoyable
Very enjoyable.
It did repeat small sections which I found irritating, my only criticism.

Boring
Less than expected for content glossing over key events. Readers little girl voice continued throughout book even though the character had become an adult. Music at start of chapters is very irritating in this and other books. Very disappointed.

Loved this adaptation
I have read this book. But I’ve enjoyed the audio book much more. Sight loss has made me turn to audiobooks and it means I can still enjoy my favourite pastime which is reading and Philippa Gregory my favourite author thank you
