About this listen

They were told to leave. They should have listened.

The perfect opportunity…

A manor house available rent-free to house-sitters is an offer too good to miss for Cass and James, who have been saving for a deposit on their own home for so long.

Although it had been abandoned for almost thirty years, after a home invasion left almost all the inhabitants dead, it is an amazing chance for them to build their future.

But is it worth the price?

Shortly after moving in things take a sinister turn. Objects disappear and turn up in odd places, the clock always stops at the same time, the house is strangely oppressive and sometimes it feels like Cass and James are not alone.

Newington House may have bad energy, and a dark reputation. But surely there’s no reason for history to repeat itself, is there?

What a complex story. I did lose track sometimes as to who was who but nevertheless enjoyed it enormously even though Cass’s constant whining did get a bit grating

Compelling

Superb story

The main character Cass is annoying and unlikeable, she is too frantic and hysterical all the time… but maybe that was the point.
The narrators voice is not easy to listen to, I felt that ruined my enjoyment a little. But overall, a good story with lots of twists. I would recommend.

Lots of twists, kept me guessing

I liked the story but it was a lot longer than it needed to be. I think it would have been better about 30% shorter. Cass can be a bit irritating but overall I enjoyed it.

Really long

Decent story but parts of it are left unexplained. One of the tags is ‘supernatural’ and I wouldn’t agree with that. I wouldn’t deter anyone from reading/listening to it, however I wouldn’t exactly recommend it either. Good performance from the narrator though.

Good but not great

Gripping read. Huge twist at the end. Didn't see it coming. Great narration. I don't know what else to say.

Wow 😮

Really well written. Enjoyable and worth a credit. The first reveal is ludicrous and would completely put me off a book but because the writing is so good and the rest of the twist and turns are great you look past it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this!

I was dancing about this book for a while as I was convinced this must be a ghost story as many others. Still the blurb was intriguing enough to give it a go. And was I wrong, this is so much more than a ghostly suspense story, this is psycho thriller at its best confusing, compelling and captivating. 10 hours later and I’m still not sure whether there were ghosts or monsters or just villains or whether any crimes justify the means or whether the means justify the crimes. And I got blindsided much more than usual so I didn’t see a lot of the twists coming and definitely got a lot of assumptions and predictions wrong. Now I have to download more books by Louise Jensen for sure.

There are still stories which break the moulds
