This book by Stephenie Meyer, author of the aclaimed Twilight Saga, is a deeply moving story about what it means to be human. Aliens have conquered Earth and taken over the minds of humans. Most humans have submitted, but there are some who resist. When Wanderer is driven by her resistant human host to seek sanctuary among the people her host once knew, she faces rejection, hatred and violence, but also discovers the meaning of true love and friendship. This is a science fiction tale which is not my usual fair, but I thought it was very well written and I found the characters both complex and engaging.

Really enjoyed this audiobook. It is not my usual type of book but it was surprisingly gripping and kept surprising me. Brilliant ending too which completed the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Highly recommend.

When I first listened to this, I had to stay up for many hours because I could not bear to switch it off to sleep, I needed to know what happened next.
I subsequently bought the paperback copy of the book, however this is one of the cases where a narrator brings so much extra to a story, that I always come back to the audiobook.
Kate reads this with such emotion, in places I was sobbing. Her slightly stilted accent for the character of the alien, Wanderer, is perfect, and I easily distinguished between every other character from her clever use of voices.
A very moving story about what it means to be human, and to belong.

It's brilliant, I downloaded it for my mom to listen to as we went to watch the film. She loves it, we listen to about three chapters a day on the iPad, well worth it. Good imagery when listening to it. Can't wait to listen to the rest. It's brilliant! One of Stephanie's best.

After listening to all of the Twilight Saga books in record time and more than once I decided to give this a try! What a pleasant surprise. I was expecting not to like it as I still had Edward,Bella et al in my head and it did take a while to get into this story. The first part of the story is very slow and the narrators' inflection is quite irritating (that was the reason I did not give this 5 stars), however the story does pick up so do stick with it. I found it pulled me in without my realising it and I look forward to the rumoured sequels to this to see what happens to the expanding cast of characters. Not as good as the Twilight Saga but definitely worth listening to. In fact I would suggest putting another read between the Twilight books and this one so that you come to it with a fresh mind.

What made the experience of listening to The Host the most enjoyable?

I had already read this book but couldn't resist buying the audio version. The story line starts off a bit slow but stick with it because I promise, it's worth it. And the ending ...... wow.

Couldn't pick a favourite because I love them all.

A fantastic story of a love triangle with a twist ‘two of the characters are sharing the one body’. As usual Stephenie Meyer immerses you into a fantastic, alternative but yet believable world. This I feel is due to her attention to details as you fall into her worlds immersing yourself with her love for her characters (good and bad alike). As you follow Melanie/Wanderer’s journey you find you heart pulling in many different directions as the story unfolds. I recommend you listen to this if you did or did not enjoy the Twilight Series. This is Stephenie’s wonderful penmanship at her best.
