________

Aeneas, the son of Venus, is destined for greatness, prophesised to father a people who will one day rule the world.

But behind every great man are the women the prophecies forget.
Creusa, Dido and Lavinia will never meet, yet they are united by the ambitions of one man whose life is pre-ordained to collide irreparably with theirs.

But if their destiny remains unwritten, can they determine the future for themselves?

This is the story of Rome's origins as it's never been told before, through the eyes of three women whose choices changed history.

They say behind every great man is a great woman. Behind Aeneas, the under-appreciated Greek hero and demi God fated to found the Roman kingdom, are three women whose stories are irrevocably linked to his own. In this remarkable retelling,Laura Shepperson intertwined each woman's story, gradually tracking Aeneas from the fall of Troy to the founding of a new nation destined to stand for 1000 years. Christine Atherton masterfully reads this narrative helping accentuate the drama and bring the characters to life.

I love this and Laura’s first novel. Fantastic retelling of classic stories, with a focus on the unheard women. It’s a great story that you can enjoy for itself or delve deeper into the themes in a book club.

Beautiful narrative didn’t come off too forced from feminist pov and had a very balanced character perspective. Without giving too much away I really enjoyed the ending which gave it sense of spirituality and restored harmony amongst a well known tragic narrative.
