About this listen

From the Waterstones Book Prize shortlisted author of A Boy Called Hope and The Boy Who Sailed the Ocean in an Armchair.

Mabel has a suitcase full of worries - it turned up just after her dad disappeared and before her mum started dating Gavin. She worries about big things and little things and shoves them into her suitcase until it’s so full it might explode....

I listened to this as I was covering it with my class of 11/12 year olds. I honestly found it a very tough listen. I found the narration very irritating and the story quite poor but thought perhaps it was just that I'm not the target audience. My class have been reading the book over the last few weeks and they really are hating it. We have only listened to a few of the audiobook chapters and the rest has been reading a hard copy of it but the children themselves have said that the characters are annoying, the story is boring and they really don't like the writing style.
