Summary
This is the story of a girl who gets lost on an outing in the Northeast woods. In her panic to get back on the track, she takes turnings which lead her deeper and deeper into the terrifying woods. With only a small amount of food and water in her knapsack, she begins to give up hope of ever getting out. Alive. The only thing that keeps her going is her Walkman on which she listens avidly to Red Sox baseball games, creating an imaginary friendship with her hero Tom Gordon. And as she struggles for survival and a way out, she realises she's not alone. There's something else in the woods, and it's watching her.

fantastic
a brilliant story that keeps you hooked from the start you really care for the protagonist and the ending you'll she'd a tear and if there was a book of Stephen king's that should be made into a film this is one

the man who loved Tricia's journey!
a really good, involving 6 hour listen, Anne heche nailed the voice of Tricia perfectly and the build up to the final confrontation was well worth the journey!

Do you think you could survive?
What made the experience of listening to The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon the most enjoyable?
The story is well written and nicely paced. The performance by Anne Heche is excellent and has a steady, pleasant flow.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Similar to Gerald's Game, Trisha is alone and her imagination runs riot meaning there's probably little choice than to make her my favourite character. She shows great resolve and you fear for both her sanity and safety as time rolls on and she is still so far from civilisation and her family.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Where she confronts the bear.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No specific moment but reading about her loneliness and realising her fragility and the danger she is in as a 9 year old lost in the woods certainly pulls on the heart strings.

Another good story from Stephen King. Well worth a listen.

Tom Gordon
I first read this about 25 year’s ago and didn’t think it was that good however I’m reading or listening to SK works in chronological order and thought I’d give it a go on audible and I don’t know if it was that or me being more mature or a combination but I really enjoyed the story and the narration was also very good.I’m not a sports fan but there wasn’t too much emphasis on baseball more the story of the girl lost in the woods and the creature who stalked her, I would listen to it again in another few years

Masterclass in descriptive language
The story is a fascinating one, it isn’t very plot driven but it’s incredibly immersive; you could lose yourself in the story. The description is so immeasurably good, it becomes almost a role play where you are the main character (little 10 year old Tricia McFarland). The twists and turns of this book knock you for six, it has you picking it up at every opportunity - a real page turner (so to speak). A fascinating delve into what really happens during days and days of a traumatic experience which, if it were to happen in real life, one wouldn’t get the opportunity to hear a story of this sort in depth or any detail at all.
One separate point is the levels are really bad in the mixing in of the random musical interludes. Yes they are disconcerting but not in the way I believe the producer intended. They are slightly deafening and rather annoying.
Nevertheless the audio dictator did a wonderful job portraying all of the differences in voices - I particularly liked the sly voice
