Summary
The number one best-selling author.
Just promise me one thing.... Have the courage to follow your heart.
Buenos Aires, 1948.
Audrey Garnet lives a sheltered life in the exclusive Argentinian community of Hurlingham. That is, until Cecil and Louis Forrester arrive, travelling from England to make their fortunes.
Admired by all for her beauty and grace, Audrey quickly catches the eyes of both brothers, but it is talented-but-troubled outsider Louis with his musical flair whom she is drawn to most. Cecil, however, is a better match - a decorated war hero who has charmed the entire community, including Audrey’s parents, forcing Audrey to keep her true feelings a secret.
But when a family tragedy rocks Audrey’s world, she is faced with a terrible dilemma: must she do her duty to her family, or will she finally be able to follow her heart?

A lovely....
story with some great details within the book. The narrator was good at using different voices for the characters.

A wonderful story
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of love, life, heartbreak and deceit, so beautifully written and brilliantly narrated. I love Santa Montefiore books and this was a particular favourite.

Compassion & understanding Enjoyed the whole story, some of the it was rather drawn out.
Enjoyed the whole story but some of the story was rather drawn out and didn’t seem relative to the story

Very emotive!
I wasn’t sure to begin with…..but I soon fell under the spell. The characters were so clear in my mind and I felt the emotions very strongly.

Boring.
Really struggled to finish this. In true Santa Montefiore style kept thinking it would lead to something more exciting but it never did

Stick with this book
Although it took some time before the real story begins I almost gave up after the first few chapters. There was slightly too much colonial expat silly tittle tattle but on hindsight I suppose it was necessary so as to establish the background scenario for the book.
I'm so glad I stuck with with.
We'll worth reading.

Absolutely brilliant
This has got to be one of her best books. It made me smile and cry. Her writing is so descriptive and the narrator did it justice

Heart rending story
I loved the story in the main, great characters, narrator really good , but not sure why the children had South African dialects ( baffling )
The ending I personally thought was a cop out. Why after all the love, loss and waiting, did she walk away. Thank goodness for Grace.
