Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Juliet believes girls like her - girls with arthritis - don't get their own love stories. She exists at the edges of her friends' social lives, skipping parties to play online chess under a pseudonym with strangers around the world. There, she isn't just 'the girl with crutches'.

Ronan is the new kid: good looking, smart, a bad boy plagued by guilt over what happened to his brother Ciaran. Chesslife is his escape.

Juliet thinks Ronan thinks someone like Ronan could never be interested in someone like her - and she wouldn't want him to be anyway - he always acts like he's cooler than everyone else.

Little do they know they've already discovered each other online, and have more in common than they think...

Where do I begin? I suppose the chance meeting with the author's sister at an engagement party recently which led me to downloading a book which would not normally be within a genre of my normal reading habits. Well it didn't take long to be hooked listening to this delightful tale of romance which was told in a most engaging format of alternating short chapters narrated superbly by both main characters. The dialogue was so real and each character so well developed. I was truly transported back to my teens which explains the title of my review. Looking forward to reading/hearing Jenny's latest work and to the wedding when I can have a chat with Dee to thank her for the recommendation and give my direct feedback.

Binge-listened - great first novel

Really enjoyed this story which was recommended by a friend. I finished it in 4 days as I found I got really invested in the lives of the characters and really needed to find out how it ended. The narrators did a great job of bringing the characters to life. Hope there’s a sequel 🤞🏻
