A good way to brake up my 2000AD story's. I liked that the Judges were not the main story. filled out Death's world and a little back story on Mortis.

I'm a big fan of the Judge Dredd universe and expected a tale of terror. However, it was slow, depressing and had little glimpses of hope, which a tale like this needs. Good narrators.

I've been really enjoying all the penguin 2000ad stuff. This one fell fairly short mainly due to the narrators. They both had very limited range and I think instead of getting them to narrate one story each it might have been better to have them working together.

This was an incredible 3 part book each was gripping and made you wishing there would be more to come. Inspired by the 2000ad comic, this keeps all the aspects that made it such a great comic.
Excited to hear the audio book after reading.
This starts with being read like an American detective novel. They bring the excitement, mystery and anticipation to life.
2000ad and Rebellion do it again.

Really enjoyed it and obviously expected it to be bleak considering the fate of Deadworld has been known almost since Judge Death’s first appearance 38 years ago but I must admit I had to stop listening while I was self isolating as I found it a bit too...heavy/depressing and it was starting to effect my mood!
Originally split across three novella’s I personally enjoyed the first two much more than the third as they set the scene, gave back story and seemed to have more direction. The final book seems a little lacklustre story wise but really enjoyed the audiobook as a whole.
The only thing I wasn’t too keen on was some of Stephanie Cannon’s reading, it’s okay but I found when she played the male characters they didn’t...um...well they sounded feminine as they would understandably and as Death appears quite a lot in her reading I found it jarring that he had a female sounding voice. Probably just me but it didn’t sit right but she absolutely nailed the sisters and the other characters.
My only gripe story wise overall is I’d liked more of an insight into how the dead judges worked, sometimes they have individual character and other times they’re almost automatons also where was Fear and Fire? They don’t appear at all.

It seems Mortis’s Red Mosquito starts as chemical/magical poisoning but then for no explained reason becomes some sort of psychic attack and stuff like rotting food is just a mind trick. Does one lead to the other? Is it combined? The plot is vague.
I’d also like to know what Death’s longtime plan is once he kills everyone, if the greys have sentience surely they could commit “crime” like any living person as they have their own wants and needs, how and when will it only end up being the four dark judges and the sisters? Maybe that’s for later novels...

Maybe should have listened to this during lockdown!😂
