About this listen

When a stranger asks Jo Blackmore for a lift, she says yes, then swiftly wishes she hadn't. The stranger knows Jo's name; she knows her husband, Max, and she's got a glove belonging to Jo's two-year-old daughter, Elise. What begins with a subtle threat swiftly turns into a nightmare as the police, social services and even Jo's own husband turn against her. No one believes that Elise is in danger. But Jo knows there's only one way to keep her child safe - run.

I was absolutely hooked right from the very beginning. It was so full of drama and suspense with so many twists and turns. Katie Scarf read the story so well, really living every moment. I can't wait to hear more CL Taylor read by Katie.

A really gripping story

I felt the narrator was awful and she ruined it for me. I enjoyed the story just felt it was a bit unbelievable the end of the story.
Would have given none for performance but it wouldn’t let me

Took a while to get into and was a bit uncomfortable to listen to at first but as story gathered pace enjoyed the suspense of the chase!

book was good. but I was promised a twist and there wasn't one. otherwise would have been 5 stars all round

Worth persevering as the last part of the book is very exciting. It’s a slow start and the main character is annoyingly weedy at the beginning (which sets the tone) and that seemed overdone at the time but with hindsight I get it.
Worth a listen - and I really don’t understand why the narrator has been criticised adversely.

Slow start

The structure of this jam-packed, fast paced novel is well-laid out, moving from the protoganist's voice to a mysterious person continuously. While the enigmatic chapters were less than mysterious, as I figured out who it was near the beginning, it is clear and not too overdone. It is sad as there are many mothers treated this way especially through the systems, not believed and thought of as unfit. Hence it seems realistic with a sense of tension throughout

While nothing new, it is well executed
