About this listen
As ork ships lay waste to world after world, heading inexorably towards Terra, Imperial citizens despair. The High Lords become desperate to prove that victory is possible, no matter the cost.
A massive navy fleet is assembled - their mission to make a definitive strike against the orks at Port Sanctus, an area of enemy-held space. But when the Imperial armada arrives, they find themselves outclassed and outmanoeuvred. Can human courage and faith possibly prevail against such terrible odds?

As mentioned above the story is solid enough and still being built upon by book 3. I am interested enough in the plot to want to continue the story.
The politicking chapters are great and really flesh out the imperium and how changes that happened at this time led the imperium to what it was in the 41st millennium.
Sadly, I think these book have the same issue that nearly all black library and 40k books have, the battles are awful (from the point of view of wanting something with detail). The battles are quite often bland, sterile and vague. Land battles are especially vague affairs that can last days in the world time.
I don't know if the writer/writers have military experience but from the way the scenes are portrayed I would guess not. Little things such as having to tell 'elite' soldiers to load a magazine of ammunition or not telling 'elite' soldiers why they have to eat or something bad could happen.
Another issue is the length of each book, although they are of a fantastic quality they are very short for what they cost. At between 5-7 hours each they should really be have them doubled up to make them worth the cost.
Should you get them....
If you are a 40k fan with a desire to explore an imperium in a new era of history and enjoy black library's style of battle narration then this series may be for you.
If you like 40k but don't care too much for the battles or era then I would probably skip unless you can get the books on a 2 for 1 sale.
If you aren't a 40k fan I would probably skip as for me a lot of the enjoyment of the books was seeing how things have changed in the background. You can get better and longer books out there in another sci fi setting.
Opinion after 3 books
