Summary
While almost entirely fictional, this story about the famous entertainer Barnum, his beautiful daughter, and one very clever clown, set against the backdrop of an old-fashioned circus, is witty, sweet, and romantic.

Fictional account of a (mainly) Russian circus
I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this story, but it was an interesting listen, The style of writing is very similar to that of other Russian authors in that it is full of dramatic superlatives and the characters are all either exceedingly beautiful, incredibly talented (or both) or are the exact opposite.
The title is a bit misleading as in fact Barnum and his daughter don't make any appearance until quite close to the end. However, if you like this sort of writing, then it is an enjoyable and rather sweet story. It should be noted that it is complete fiction and the notes at the end give a very interesting background to the era and the circuses of Europe.
The narration is done in a very workmanlike manner and is very appropriate to the style of writing.
