Summary
Scaling a new peak of rash overambition, Tim Moore tackles the 9,000 kilometer route of the old Iron Curtain on a tiny-wheeled, two-geared East German shopping bike.
Asking for trouble and getting it, he sets off from the northernmost Norwegian-Russian border at the Arctic winter's brutal height, bullying his plucky MIFA 900 through the endless and massively subzero desolation of snowbound Finland.
Sleeping in bank vaults, imperial palaces and unreconstructed Soviet youth hostels, battling vodka-breathed Russian hostility, Romanian landslides and a diet of dumplings, Moore and his 'so-small bicycle' are sustained by the kindness of reindeer farmers and Serbian rock gods, plus a shameful addiction to Magic Man energy drink.
Haunted throughout by the border detritus of watchtowers and rusted razor wire, Moore reflects on the curdling of the Communist dream and the memories of a Cold War generation reared on the fear of apocalypse - at a time of ratcheting East-West tension.
After three months, 20 countries and a 58 degree jaunt up the centigrade scale, man and bike finally wobble up to a Black Sea beach in Bulgaria, older and wiser, but mainly older.

Please record the rest of Tim's books
Great story with the right mix between detail and pace. I appreciate some journeys had to be significantly fast-forwarded to avoid making a 30 hour book!
Not quite sure about the narrator. It's an easy listen, but occasionally I found my mind wandering, which doesn't generally happen much. A lot of the narrative is quite gloomy - this is a book about the iron curtain - but I think the narrator often crossed the line between morose wit and falling asleep.
Slightly disappointed that there was no matching PDF to check the photographs mentioned in the text.
I've been a fan of Tim Moore for a while now - please consider recording the other books.

Good story, needs more engaging narration
Enjoyed the story as I have done with all the Tim Moore books that I've read but struggled with Moore's delivery as narrator and almost gave up a few times. I think I'll stick to reading his work rather than listening to it narrated by him.

Read or listen to everything this man writes
I love this book and hope that Moore (!) will be available on audible. He is the travel voice of my generation. Read or listen to everything you can.

a very compelling listen
I really enjoy Tim Moore's books, and I'm always scanning audible to see if new titles have been added to the list. His wise-cracking word-play isn't to everyone's tastes, but in all of his journeys, you really feel as if you're along on the ride. His accomplishment in polishing off EV13 left me both entertained and overawed. I take terrible pride in getting my bike just four miles to the local pub, and I can't begin to imagine how he squared up to winter in Finland and so much else.

simply brilliant
An artist in the English language, a guy with true courage and modesty who knows how to plan, research and complete a true endurance adventure and from whom all travel writers can learn . Wholly entertaining and thought provoking in every aspect. Memorable indeed.

A fantastic, brave adventure, well told.
Another great read from Tim. I listened to it in two sittings. Still have absolutely no idea how he managed that ride on that bike!

Wonderful, informative, and extremely funny.
Loved the amazing mix of observations history and cycling One for the cycling tourist or the tourist or the cyclist. Inspiration to get back in the saddle and move through the world again

Decent Listen
Not as good as his earlier book ‘French Revolutions’ which has disappeared from my Audible library and Audible online. But any cyclist who does a few hours in the saddle and had a few hellish marathon rides will enjoy this book.

Excellent book
At the start I thought he was trying to hard to be funny but after that initially flurry of fast and furious one liners you adapt to his humour and the book becomes highly addictive listening!
