تنشأ قصة حب بين فاطمة المسلمة ذات السبعة عشر عامًا وسالم اليهودي صاحب الإثنى عشر عامًا. تعلمه قراءة القرآن ويعلمها التوراه، يهربا إلى صنعاء خوفًا من المحيطين، لكن تظل المطاردة والنبذ حتى بعد الموت!
الرواية تؤرخ لفترة منسية من تاريخ اليمن القبلي، كان المسلمون يرون أن اليهود ليس لهم حق العيش في الجزيرة العربية، واليهود يؤمنون بأن اليمن وطنهم وينتظرون ظهور المسيح المخلص لإنقاذهم!
