About this listen
I went to an auction to buy a racehorse and left with a wife.
Cameron: I celebrated a little too much after I purchased a racehorse favored to win the Kentucky Derby. I let down my guard and the next thing I know, I woke up beside the daughter of the man my father hates.
Married.
I should divorce her immediately, only she knows everything about the horse racing world and I know, well, nothing. We also made quite a scene at the auction and everyone thinks we're in love.
We agree to stay married until the season is over.
But pretending to be in love is a lot of fun as we start winning races and give into all kinds of temptations.
Now the season is over. She's having my baby. And there's no way I'm letting her go.

Wonderful Story & Narration🎧Riveting & Enjoyable!
Deborah Garland pens another fabulous novel set in her “Wild Texas Hearts” story and wow, what a story it is. I would like to say her series keeps getting better and better, but that would not be fair to the earlier books, which are just as amazing. This story is Cameron Renner and Lakelyn ‘Lake’ Sutherland’s story, neighbors growing up but their families are rivals, something their fathers took seriously. Cameron wanted nothing to do with the ranch and he left to become Jamie Miller's manager, a hit music artist and the father of his late sister’s daughter. Cameron gets a call to come home because his father suffered a cardiac arrest and was in the hospital. The handling of the ranch was now his job, and he was out of his element, but Jamie helped him, along with others, including Logan, the barn foreman. When he learned that the Sutherland’s next door was auctioning off one of their prized horses slated to be the next Derby winner, Blue Lake, a horse his father wanted, he knew he had to go to that auction and try to get it. So off to Houston he goes and the day after the auction he woke up, not only the owner of a new horse, Blue Lake, but with a new wife, Lakelyn. Neither one remembers what happened or how it happened, but her brother, Rafe, came and told them exactly why they were married. Cameron does not have time to deal with that for now, they have to get ready for the races, and when he learns how much knowledge Lake has, not only about the horses, but of the racing community, he puts her in charge. Lake has an MBA, something her father never took advantage of. Cameron wanted to keep their relationship platonic, at least until they knew what they were going to do, which was difficult since the chemistry between them was electric. However, things between them change when they spend more time together and then they get some unexpected news. Lakelyn was insecure, not knowing what Cameron was thinking or wanting, and it wasn’t until Cameron realizes it, it was almost too late. I loved how everything played out in this book, it was off to the races from the very start and there was never a dull moment, the drama was non-stop and there was some angst, lots of heartfelt emotions and some steamy romance. Deborah Garland, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Gregory Salinas and Lexi Evans were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and they did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Salinas nailed it as Cameron, grasping all aspects of his personality and played the role of a swoon worthy cowboy naturally. Evans was just as amazing as Lakelyn, also grasping every side of her personality, from her insecurities to her fierceness. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

Lake & Cameron!
Now this is a fun take on a cowboy romance! I loved every minute of it. Deborah Garland writes the third in her Wild Texas Hearts series and it's fun, flirty and impossible not to love. This book features Cameron and Lake. Cameron has no interest in running his family's ranch. He is the manager for Jamie Miller, a famous singer, and the uncle to Jamie's adorable daughter. He is suddenly called home to attend his father who has fallen sick and now Cam has to take over the ranching duties. First is to purchase a race horse from the Sutherland farm auction. Cam's family and theirs have been at odds for years, so when he comes home with not only the horse, but Lake, a Sutherland, he knew he would be in for it. He doesn't even remember the night he was with her, but their draw to each other is real. Lake is all in for the time being. She has crushed on Cam for years, so now it's her chance to live out her dreams with him, plus take a horse to the races! But with the deal this would end when the races were complete may need to be renegotiated. Will these two fall in love for real? Will Cam fall in love with racing horses? What will his father say when he finds out? This is packed full of excitement, hope and love and I absolutely loved attending the triple crown! It's fun and thrilling, the best kind of listen. I enjoyed this and look forward to more from Garland.
Narrated by Gregory Salinas and Lexi Evans just enhances the story even more. Salinas is a favorite and his role as Cam is spot on. A little hesitant, but ready to take the plunge, Salinas gives just the right amounts of emotion as he goes through the obstacles. Evans is amazing as Lake. Living her dreams, both with the horses and love, she provides a wonderful array of feelings that make it easy to relate to Lake. Loved these two and their performance.

Stand alone story, good communication
This is my first Deborah Garland book. It was easy to listen to as a stand alone. I especially liked that Cam and Lake had good communication between them for the most part (much more so than most contemporary stories).
The narration by Lexi Evans and Gregory Salinas. The accent make Gregory Salinas sound a little different than usual which was interesting. Lexi Evans did an especially great job sounding age appropriate (younger or older depending on the characters).
I received a copy of the book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
