About this listen

The perfect escape....

Gabrielle Adams has it all - brains, beauty, a handsome fiancé and a dream job in publishing.

Until, one day, everything changes.

The ‘Underground Killer’ takes his victims when they least expect it: standing on the edge of a busy Tube platform, as they wait for a train to arrive through the murky underground tunnels of London.

Gabrielle soon learns that being a survivor is harder than being a victim, and she struggles to return to her old life. Desperate to break free from endless nightmares, she snatches up an opportunity to run a tiny bookshop in a picturesque cove in rural Cornwall.

She thinks she’s found the perfect escape, but has she swapped one nightmare for another?

Suspense and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced thriller, set amidst the spectacular Cornish landscape.

This wasn’t a thriller or keep me on the edge of my seat, wanting more. Predictable and shallow and I couldn’t really care what happened to the characters by the end.

Disappointing as the previous book I read by this author I enjoyed.

Hoping for more, average book

I’ve listened to several books by this author before but this one was disappointing. Part chic-lit, part unconvincing melodrama this is not a book I can recommend.

Not what I was expecting

Lovely setting nice people but plot was a bit weak and it seemed to gallop to an end

Enjoyable

Loved this book. Pleasant and absorbing. Gritty at times but a clean storyline. Kept you guessing right to the end,

Very pleasurable read.

The prose, the plot, the characters, the denouement, not one part of this book wasn’t excruciatingly bad. Yet, I listened to the end. So make of that what you will.

Excruciatingly bad but couldn’t stop listening

It feels like there is something missing
The plot jumps to a partial resolution without no explanation. Perhaps a chapter is missing from the audio book

Odd plot jump

Easy listening, bit far fetched in places but great performance. Thanks for another good freebie.

This came up as a suggested title in the 'plus catalogue' and I'm happy it did.

A great short 'read' .
Well written and well narrated.
I'm Cornish born and bred and dread it when some people attempt the accent but was more than surprised with the attempt by the narrator.
Great story, was heard to say "f**k off" when the murderer showed their face.
Have already recommended the title to other audible friends.

More than pleasantly surprised.

I found this story entertaining. Not my usual detective type.
It was made better as I related the Cove to another that visited in West Wales. I have fond memories of this particular cove and found the story fitted nicely.
My only criticism, hence one less star, was the altering level of sound that required my increasing and decreasing the level. Not enough though to put me off finishing the book.

Refreshing listen
