I wasn't keen on the continual name dropping of people he had met - it just got on my nerves!

Intelligently and engagingly written book about the positive impacts of ageing on the brain and what we can do to help ourselves - dr Levitin reads with the same enthusiasm he lives his life and I would recommend to anyone who feels anxious about dementia and so on - a handbook for change

I first heard about Daniel when he was interviewed on the radio in the UK on a Sunday morning. Whilst the interviews were not the best, the points Daniel made and the way he made them, made me seek out of his book and jump right in!
This is a fascinating read, which will change the way you view the rest of your life. There are parts which are quite scientific and have gone over my head, but I am sure they will make more sense when I enjoy this book again.

Excellent text but quite complex at times with a lot of medical and scientific jargon in places.
Still lots to get out of it though even if you are not trained in these areas.
Great to hear the scientific evidence that debunks a lot of popular views.

Extensive research has enabled Daniel Levitin to offer considerable practical advice on ageing well. It's a lot to take in and will need revisiting. The audio version means missing out on almost 100 pages of notes and references. I'd recommend the print version instead or as well.
It became somewhat irritating how American it is. I felt towards the end that I was bombarded with strings of US medication names, products and procedures. Maybe this would be less apparent in print.

Interesting volume of practical information

We, old people, have plenty of time, yet I felt this book took it a bit for granted. The core advice is pretty much summarized in the final chapter which is just 1m27sec long: exercise, learn new things, talk to younger people... - nothing ground breaking. It's a good summary of the research to date with plenty of anecdotal examples of some oldsters still going strong, but not much more.
