يتعرض عماد لضغوط متواصلة ليوقع على استنكار للحزب، ولكنه يواصل رفضه، وإن بقي مترددًا ويفكر بالأمر لفترة طويلة يتعرَّف في ذلك الوقت على سعيد المقّب ب"القط" والذي بدأ يبثُّ فيه روح الحرية والرغبة بطريقة غير مباشرة في الهروب من السجن..
