About this listen

*This audiobooks includes an audio-exclusive conversation between Peter May and Peter Forbes*

THE RETURN OF FIN MACLEOD, PETER MAY'S MUCH-LOVED HERO OF THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING LEWIS TRILOGY.

A MURDER

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of An Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. A swimmer and canoeist, it is inconceivable that she could have drowned.

A SECRET

Fin Macleod left the island ten years earlier to escape its memories. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

A RECKONING

But nothing is as it seems, and the truth of the murder lies in a past that Fin would rather forget, and a tragedy at the cages of a salmon farm on East Loch Roag, where the tense climax of the story finds its resolution.

The Black Loch takes us on a journey through family ties, hidden relationships and unforgiving landscapes, where suspense, violent revenge and revelation converge in the shadow of the Black Loch.©2024 Peter May (P)2024 Penguin Audio

What a partnership! The two Peters bring these stories to life like nothing else I've listened to. I've listened to every book. You, as a reader becomes part of the fabric of each story.

A joy to listen to.

Obviously well written, the descriptions of Lewis were as always superb and was brilliantly read.
Story was good, but personally felt the returning to earlier events from previous books were too often and lengthy and spoilt the tension

Not my favourite of the Lewis collection

Very well narrated . A familiar voice for Peter May’s books .
I like the fact that it’s not always pretty and the storyline can be grim , noticeably, the Wales . The characters feel very real with their flaws and goodness juxtaposed

Description is so powerful you can see it in your minds eye .

What an atmospheric and beautifully written book. The imagery surrounding the natural landscape is transformative, making the setting every bit as important as character or plot.
Reading The Black Loch really is like stepping onto the Isle of Lewis and being surrounded by nature. It’s the use of the senses that weaves such a magical environment so effectively.
The plot is sensationally good. The past reverberates through the narrative, igniting old passions and grievances so that the present events are imbued with guilt, menace and threat.

The plot is sensationally good.

I know an audiobook is good when I can't stop listening. If you liked the first three books, you will enjoy this one.

Great story and narration

My huge thanks to both Peters for giving me hours of complete absorption and pleasure in listening to another of the Lewis 'Trilogy'. Can it still be called a trilogy? 😉
Seriously though, for a moment, I felt that there was a little too much reminiscing about a third of the way through the book. However, after that, I was (again) carried away to Lewis to hope that all would come 'out in the wash' - which it did so splendidly! I absolutely recommend all 4 books, yet read in the order they were published 👌

The incredible skills of both the writer and the narrator!

If you’ve listened/read the trilogy you won’t be disappointed. The interview at the end of the book is an added bonus.

Loved it.
