About this listen
The memories you least like to think about have more of a hold on you than you realize… and EMDR can change that.
Whether you’re a therapist or someone searching for new emotional healing, your goal is to address trauma.
To be effective, you need to engage the creative brain… and that’s where Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) comes in.
EMDR is designed to ease the distress you associate with traumatic memories, combining cognitive, somatic, and emotion-focused therapies with bilateral stimulation—usually guided eye movements.
The result?
The way you perceive events changes, giving you a more balanced understanding of yourself and the world around you.
It has extraordinary power, and simply learning how it works can change the way you experience yourself, even without pinpointing specific trauma.
Written by a licensed psychologist and EMDR therapist, it is not designed to replace therapy, but to give you relief and a pathway back to your true self.
Inside, you’ll discover:
- Coping strategies to develop before engaging in EMDR
- Clear guidance for finding the memories affecting you most deeply
- An introduction to bilateral stimulation and how it helps
- Step-by-step guidance for processing trauma through EMDR
- How art can be combined with EMDR—and why this is so effective
- Why your relationships may have traumatized you more than you realize… and how to apply EMDR to relationship problems
- The secret to using EMDR to improve performance
- All your most pressing questions answered—with a wealth of resources for more information
And much more.

Very insightful tool to help
When a family member was diagnosed with PTSD, I didn’t know much about trauma or how to help. This book explained how EMDR works such as using guided eye movements to reprocess memories and why it’s so effective. I learned how to identify key memories, why relationships can be a big source of trauma, and coping strategies to use before starting EMDR. It’s not a replacement for therapy, but it gave me a clear understanding of what they’re going through and how EMDR can help. Simple, practical, and really helpful.

Beyond talk therapy: A clear roadmap for healing
This grounded introduction demystifies EMDR without overselling its benefits or downplaying the work involved. The author skillfully walks readers through the science and application of bilateral stimulation, making complex neuroscience accessible without dumbing it down. The inclusion of art therapy techniques adds fresh perspective to standard EMDR protocols, though some performance-enhancement claims feel like a stretch. While not a replacement for professional treatment, the book offers valuable insights for both therapists and those considering EMDR. The relationship trauma section particularly shines, offering nuanced understanding of how past wounds shape current struggles.

A wonderful tool
This listen was a fantastic addition to my personal growth journey collection. It explains EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in simple, actionable steps that anyone can use at home. The explanations are clear, and the strategies feel empowering and quite easy to try. Also, the narration was on-point and having the audiobook format made it even easier to follow and apply in real-time. If you're dealing with past trauma or just looking to build a deeper connection with yourself and others, this book will be helpful.

Beautiful Guide to Healing Trauma
This audiobook completely changed the way I think about healing from trauma. The process of using EMDR was broken down into simple, doable steps so that it's not intimidating. I absolutely loved the creative twist of using art as part of the healing process, as I've always found this to be surprisingly transformative. It made the whole experience feel personal and even kind of exciting to try. Overall it's an amazing resource to start feeling more in control of your emotions and begin tackling those tough memories with confidence.

personal healing
Being introverted and somewhat reclusive, I tend to handle personal struggles on my own. I gave this a listen, hoping it might help, but I wasn’t sure Self-EMDR would work for me. I also didn't know it was possible to self-administer EMDR. Surprisingly, it feels practical and easy to follow, even when life feels deeply overwhelming. What I loved most is that self-EMDR isn’t about fixing everything at once, it’s about finding small moments of relief and progress.
