About this listen

With Boyd convalescing at home after his operation, and DS Minter preparing for his Inspector’s exam, CID Hastings is woefully under-manned.

So, when the body of a young man is found hanging from a tree – an apparent suicide, and a house is burned down killing a wheelchair-bound old woman, it’s down to DC Okeke to handle the two cases. However, as she digs into both it soon becomes apparent that they are connected to a third death, the eldest resident of an old people’s home.

As she peels the layers back and reveals the truth behind these deaths, little does she realise she’s in danger of kicking a hornet’s nest that has lain dormant for over sixty years.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series so far and love the way that, although they do follow on from one another, they are all so very different and this one goes that one step further to make exceptional listening. As always the narration of the wonderful Aubrey Parsons goes hand in hand with the amazing storyline to bring the listener an exceptional and believable story. I think my favourite character has got to be Jay, Samantha's other half, and although not an official member of the Police Force he is an essential member of team Boyd - well, in his mind anyway.
I hope Alex Scarrow keeps writing these great Dci Boyd stories for many years to come.

Really good!

Well that just ruined my Saturday night! I couldn’t stop listening …. Husband has given up!

Seriously: started slowly and initially seemed quite a departure from the Boyd stories but built into a great tale with so much terrifying suspense!
I do have a problem with the gravelly tones of Aubrey’s voice (cough a bit mate!) and his squeaky girl voices. Nonetheless, it’s narrated well.

Finally, thank you dear mr scarrow for being so honest about surgery and recovery.
And : I cried buckets at the opening scenes even though I knew they weren’t real X

More!
