About this listen

For fans of Emily Henry and Abby Jimenez, The Anatomy of Us is the debut novel by Sunday Times bestseller and renowned midwife Leah Hazard, performed by Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley.

It’s New Year’s Eve in Edinburgh’s biggest hospital, and Dr. Becca Armitage is struggling. After a devastating shift in the emergency room leaves her questioning everything, she signs herself off work and spirals into depression. Enter Dr. Andrew Maitland – charming, wealthy and, according to Becca, the Most Beautiful Man in the World. As they begin an unexpected romance, Becca finds herself lying to maintain the image of the put-together doctor Andrew thinks she is. But Andrew has secrets of his own. As their relationship deepens, past wounds and current truths threaten to derail their budding connection. Can two imperfect people find a way to be honest with each other, and themselves?

The Anatomy of Us is a moving story about medicine, self-acceptance, and the messy reality of falling in love. By turns hilarious and heart-breaking, it is an intimate exploration of what it means to be human in all our glorious imperfections.

Well Becca (Doctor in a busy NHS A&E) gave Bridget Jones a run for her money! I really enjoyed this 'romcom', I think it would make a great movie with plenty of luagh out loud moments.
Becca's character was lovable and infuriating all in one, so many times as the listener I was thinking 'no don't do it, don't do it' and of course she did it.
The book is also realistic in its portrayal of a busy Junior doctor under tremendous pressure, trying to do and be their best.
Jessie Buckley was just the perfect narrator and gave warmth to Becca's character.

Not to give a spoiler but boy you left it late with that ending, although I wouldn't mind a 'What Becca does next'.
(p.s Leah I'm impressed that your background research, a 'spicebag' is a delicacy in Ireland!

Well well Leah Hazard, this is a different you!

I tend to avoid medical-themed books as a Dr myself - I find repeated inaccuracies frustrating - but I knew I was in safe hands with this phenomenal author, and I’m so so glad I found her and this wonderful, thoughtful book which I really could not put down! I’ve recommended it to many healthcare friends, and am so grateful for the careful and understanding depiction of burnout and depression.

An authentic medical romance!

I loved this audiobook, I caught it on the day of release and I fell in love with the characters. The depiction of MH felt so real, frustratingly real at times. I was really rooting for the two MCs and devoured the audiobook in just a few hours

A modern rooting for them love story

I guess I wasn't sure about the lies... and the ending. Blunt and abrupt. But I did enjoy the book.

Fantastic narration

I loved this book. Finished in under 24 hours and I’m sad to hear this was her debut novel (I think that’s right) and there are no more to read from this author yet!
A really excellent and engaging story, totally not what I thought would happen with regard to the meat of the story. Superb and likeable characters that I would have loved to have known more about. The narration really was excellent as well and she completely made the story come to life with great accents, storytelling and pace.

Brilliant story, brilliant narration.

With a dr daughter currently on A&E and in a relationship with another dr (not an anaesthetist though!) and a vet son, and a mother in law with dementia…this was all too easy to relate to!

A heart warming story very realistically performed by Jessie.

I enjoyed this story and only wish I could buy a physical copy for my family members!

Very relatable story performed brilliantly.
