About this listen

In the near future where printing a brain is only a click away, the city of Portland, Oregon thrives as the new metropolis of high tech. It also boasts the highest abduction rate in the world and a dark op agency suspects its Forest Park is the major scene of intergalactic crimes. But when those responsible fail to take credit for the missing, the covert agency calls upon the clone of legendary FBI Agent Caitlin Diggs to assist in hunting down the invisible enemy. Equipped with psi abilities, the dark agency hopes Diggs can stop the enemy without exposing an alien threat to the populace.

Just underneath the radar, aliens walk in Portland under the guise of humans thanks to a morphic shaping technology. An alien posing as Wondertech’s top acquisitions specialist, Krista Shay, is hoping to find a peaceful way to initiate a first contact. Yet those back on the Zyri home world seem to have a different agenda for the planet Earth and it has nothing to do with extending an olive branch. The real Krista Shay is trapped in an alien body on Zyri and learns the sinister plans of a man she calls the Interrogator will only thwart a peace initiative.

Can Agent Diggs and the peace loving alien posing as Krista Shay find a way to unravel the dark mystery of the forest and take down the invisible enemy before an interplanetary war erupts?

good if not quite my style.

decent alternate timeline/universe style sci-fi.
the narrator is okay if a tad monotonous.

if anything, would have preferred the storylines to be more separated, it jumps to much and gets hard to follow.

Mostly good

I received this audiobook for free. Honestly it was mostly good, the world it was set in was interesting and some of the characters were quite cool (the Android partner) but there were a few leaps in logic and parts where I didn’t really know what was going on which I think wasn’t helped by the number of characters and plots we had to keep up with and that the narrator didn’t take a second or twos break between scenes (although the narrator was mostly very professional) there was also more spontaneous sex then I like in my audiobooks! Overall it was cheesy sci-fi with a few logical leaps and last minute things appearing out of nowhere but it’s short enough that you can just enjoy the ride! And it’s not a problem that it’s a mid series book at all, you don’t need to read the preceding books.

Excellent

I loved Genie Boss as narrator of the book.

There is a twist within the story, and the story is very unpredictable. Loved all of it.
Woman are disappearing from a forest where they walk in but don't come out. Unknown to people on the earth, there is a portal where you can travel from one place to another. Oh yes brains are being swapped to different bodies and are spying for the planet Zyri.

Just loved listening to this book

Far Below Par

I didn't enjoy my time with "The Alien Underneath". This was due to the main cogs of the audiobook (the story and performance) not turning.

The Story:
I found the entirety of "The Alien Underneath" to be extremely bland and disorganised. The plot could be likened to the ramblings of a mad man in that it has no real coherence. The pacing of the story is completely off over 50% of the story events feel like they happen in the last couple of pages. Meanwhile, the rest of the book crawls to a horrific crawl.

The Performance:
The audio quality of this AUDIObook was frankly lacking I had to adjust my audio settings(which work perfectly fine for every other audiobook I have listened to so far). I found the narrator ( Genie Boss ) to be particularly bland and monotone which may be in part to the writing. However, I believe that if the narration was better I would be able to somewhat enjoy this book.

That said if you want to waste around 4 hours of your life this may be the audiobook for you.
