Reverend Shackleford was at a loss. He'd truly believed that in marrying his eldest daughter Grace to an extremely wealthy peer of the realm, his problems would be over. But as the Reverend was now beginning to realize, it wasn't sufficient to have a wealthy Duke in the family if the daughter he was trying to marry off had the manners of a stable hand. And to Reverend Shackleford's knowledge, his second eldest daughter Temperance is the exact opposite of her name and a harpy to boot. In fact the Reverend very much feared that unless he could find someone to teach her at the very least how to hold her temper, he would be stuck with her forever. But as he was always telling his curate, the Almighty works in mysterious ways. Indeed, Reverend Shackleford believed his prayers were finally answered when he found the very person to take Temperance in hand.

Very entertaining Mark Elstob has the perfect voice his female voices are so funny which makes the book come to live brilliant choice of narrator. The female narrator is also good worth getting this book if you would like to hear a funny regency romance

Disliked the male narrator’s accent when delivering various characters , all sounded like common folk , he is a bad inpressionist

The comedy written throughout the story

Unfortunately, the same male narrator was used (which makes perfect sense and is commendable) however, he’s not great! He cannot do even passable female voices and his array of male voices are largely squeaky! I do not like the character of the Reverend as portrayed by him.

But. The story is far better than its predecessor and more entertaining (there’s 1 sex scene, but it’s a plot device and not merely gratuitous). I’m encouraged to move onto the next in the series - Faith.

Story was somewhat appealing and female narrator was fine BUT Mark Elstob's narration spoiled the whole experience. I'd given the second story a try but with his performance of both male and especially female voices was embarrassing! Sorry!

Story destroyed by Male Narrator

I get that it’s a “comic novel”, but giving ALL the characters awful high pitched nasal voices really grates after a while. Deirdra Whelan is great, but she only does about 10% of the book, which is not enough to save it from the Mark Elstob’s awful choices.

The story is not good enough to survive the narration.

The male narrator wasn’t easy to listen to. Particularly when doing voices of each character.

Who on earth chose Mark Elstob to narrate these delightful stories, he makes the characters into cariactures with his ridiculous voices. Adam was high and whiny where as a man who was a much desired prize would have a deep smooth voice. Even when he was saying lines which were supposedly whispered quietly he couldn'd even manage that. The only truly good voice was the Vicar. I gave the narration 2 because Deirdra Whelan was ok.

I have read and enjoyed these books and this was a bit of a disappointment. Why the voices all have to be so nasal and silly I don’t know, especially Adam the romantic hero!
