Summary

Abel: After the death of our parents, I was taken in by my brother, who has been taking care of me more out of obligation than love. When he doesn’t come home from a job—if burglary can be considered a job—I discover he’s been taken by a beast of a man with soulless eyes. Even with his scars he’s hot as hell, but his cold eyes chill me to the bone. My brother is the only family I have, so I do the only thing I can to make sure my brother is free: I offer myself to the beast for a year instead. When I find out who he is, I fear I may be in over my head.

Savage: The first word that comes to mind when I see Abel? Beautiful. The second? Untouchable. He’s much too beautiful for the likes of me, with my shifting moods and damaged body. What if I spend this year trying to win him over–mind, body, heart, and soul? It would be possible if my enemies weren’t a constant threat. If I were a regular guy, I could have someone like Abel. I have these scars because of who I am. These scars that scare everyone away. Could a beauty like Abel ever see beyond the beast to the man underneath?

Taming Savage is Beauty and the Beast reimagined as a dark and steamy gay romance with heart-pounding action, forced proximity, age gap, found family, a naughty virgin, first times, kink exploration, a mild D/s dynamic, and features a cold, damaged crime boss and the snarky beauty who will finally tame his beast.

Trigger warning: Discussion of past parental and animal death that happens off-screen, torture and violence, murder, and the sale of drugs, weapons, and dubcon. Explicit sexual content not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. If those are triggers for you, please do not listen to this audiobook.

Beaty and the Beast with a twist

This is a super steamy m/m retelling of Beauty and the Beast, where the Beast is a crime boss who is covered in scars.

I almost left off a star because Abel is so unbelievably naive and gullible and does a lot of dumb moves and Savage is a super nice guy who is quoted as being so ruthless that he earned his name but there is zero proof of that. If you are looking for a book fitting of the title, u may be disappointed. In the end I had to give it 5 stars because I loved it from start to finish and could not stop listening. I finished the book in one day. This author was new to me but I enjoyed this and would read more of their work. I'm personally not into fairytales and especially retelling of fairy tales so it says alot that I loved this. The author takes the basic elements of the fairytale and gives it a unique spin that made it super enjoyable for me. I totally forgot that's what it was.

Abels parents died and his brother is left to raise him. His brother is horrible but Abel still loves him cause he's all he has. So when his brother gets captured trespassing on Savage's property, Abel begs him to take him instead and agrees to move in for a year and do whatever he says. Sidenote Abel is a virgin.

I loved these Characters together, they had amazing chemistry. Evem if I wasn't entirely sold that they fit who the characters they were suppose to portray. This was pretty low plot, focusing on the relationship. Very high steam, low angst. There is some drama and suspsense at the end.

This was a new to me narrator but I think he did a great job. His voice was pleasant to listen to and I really enjoyed listening to this story. He expressed all of the emotions well and he gave the characters distinct voices that made the story easy to follow and I felt the voices suited the characters really well. I would definitely listen to him again. One thing negative I will say is there are very long pauses between each chapter. I kept checking my app to make sure it was still working. As I think this is an editing issue, it didn't affect my rating.

Beauty and a Scarred Beast

Taming Savage is a sweet and indulgent romance that I loved. It’s a retelling of the Beauty and Beast fairytale -but a lot of liberty has been taken with the story which makes it unique and interesting. The romance is not dark – the situation starts off dark but quickly we learn that Savage is a marshmallow for Abel. The steamy moments are HOT with just enough kink and fluff to make me melt. There is some action and drama that can be triggering for others, but the happy ending is delightful.

The audiobook was narrated by S.R. Thomas who does a nice job with voicing the characters. There are some long pauses between chapters but that’s more of an audio production issue. It doesn’t effect the story, but it did catch me off guard the first time. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this audiobook.

Savage and Abel

Both the author and the narrator were new to me. Taming Savage is a Beauty and the Beast themed story set in a setting with a criminal background. Since I like both, I was already very excited. Savage is the head of the family business and he is disfigured by a car accident. When Abel's brother breaks into his home, things take their course.
Abel is traumatized by the death of his parents and when his brother Chris doesn't show up, he offers Savage a deal.

The story was nice entertainment for in between. I liked both Abel and Savage as characters, although I think they could have used a little more depth. Abel is just sweet in his dealings with Savage and he loves his brother even though he doesn't deserve it. Savage quickly shows a much softer side when he is with Abel. There are some surprising twists that keep the tension high towards the end.

The narrator did a good job, I could listen to him easily and I could also distinguish the protagonists well. What bothered me, however, were the sometimes really long pauses between chapters, I looked a few times to see if I had accidentally stopped the audio book.

Ok

2.5-3 stars

Taming Savage was an ok read. The characters weren’t developed as far as I would have hoped. Their relationship lacked in depth.

I wasn’t too keen on the narrator’s performance. He tried, but he just didn’t pull me in.
