About this listen

As children, we dreamt of the wonderful things we were going to do when we were grown-ups.

Now that we’re grown-ups, why aren’t we out there, living the lives of our dreams?

This fun and original guide will teach you how to bypass your self-doubt and take ACTION.

Using her experience as a storyteller, broadcaster, and (undercover) life-coach, Clare Bowditch collaborates with neuroscientist Dr Charlotte Keating to detail useful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy concepts that will help you tame your inner critic. With practical steps and Clare’s trademark humour and intimate storytelling style, Tame Your Inner Critic will teach you the skills to retrain your brain and achieve your big fat dreams.

Clare Bowditch is an ARIA award-winning musician, a Logie award-nominated actor, and has been named Rolling Stone Woman of the Year for her contribution to culture. In 2019 Clare Bowditch released her debut best-selling memoir, Your Own Kind of Girl, which was short-listed for Australian Audiobook of the Year, and won an ABIA for Best New Australian Writer. In 2010, Clare overcame her Gen-Xer cynicism and trained to become a life coach with a specialty in teaching big-hearted humans how to overcome their self-doubt. Since then she’s had the pleasure of sharing speaking bills with the likes of Brené Brown and Marianne Williamson, where she is best known for teaching large audiences to overcome their collective terror of public singing, and sing anyway, in three part harmony, in fifteen minutes or less.

Truly helpful and entertaining. Well done! I've named my inner critic (Barb, because that's what it does), and feel like I can start to tackle my second thought. I struggled with CBT before because of similar reasons around why should I blame my own thoughts when it's external factors that are making me feel this way. I think that my inner critic is very much a product of adulthood and how messy it is which is illuminated by your stories. I also like to know others procrastinate as much as I do. Now just to work on which dream.

Entertaining, informative and funny

Audible original have produced another useful, easy to listen to and highly enjoyable podcast. Clare is a fun and positive Life Coach and Dr Charlotte is so practical in her advice. Even Jay (the big guy) is open and honest. I gave 4 stars for the story, as it's more of a self-help and I will definitely listen to it again. Well done! I loved it!

Really enjoyed this funny, short & inspirational 5-part podcast!

Clare uses her experience as a musician & actor, storyteller, and a life-coach - collaborating with respected neuroscientist Dr Charlotte Keating - to offer useful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy concepts and approaches to help you tame your inner critic (Mine is Snide Sheena, ugh what a wagon! 😂)

It was a great listen - her Aussie sense of fun, easy to remember ideas, jokes, silly songs, good pace, and all backed by personal experience and science.

Can't wait to FAFL and FOF (I do love me a good anagram) the next time Sheena lets rip! So go Shut it, Sheena (SOS!!) and thanks Clare!

fun, quick, entertaining, and backed by science

I started listening to this audiobook because of friend who has a very loud inner critic and I wanted to help him out. I learnt this is more common than I knew and some techniques to work with. The author is funny, although it took me a couple of minutes to get used to her style, and her voice is full of happiness and understanding. The first 3 chapters are the strongest, but the whole series has been enlightening.

A curious introduction to extreme self-doubt
