Im Hamburger Stadtteil Rotherbaum wohnt die Studentin Rebecca. Von ihren Nachbarn weiß sie nur wenig. Sie bereiten ihr Unbehagen. Überhaupt hat sie jahrelange Übung darin, das Leben nur in kleinen, kontrollierten Dosen an sich heranzulassen. Die Welt außerhalb ihrer Wohnung macht ihr Angst, insbesondere seit ein psychopathischer Einbrecher sein Unwesen treibt, den die Medien den "Balkon-Vergewaltiger" nennen. Das Haus, in dem sie lebt, ist immer ihr Zufluchtsort gewesen. Dort konnte sie sich verkriechen und ihre Sorgen mit einem dicken Panzerriegel aussperren. Jetzt liegt hier eine blutüberströmte Leiche, und im Keller fängt es an zu stinken.
