About this listen
John "Sicarius" Gaines has been regarded as the best at what does does. He is a paid assassin, and he is ruthless. He will stop at nothing to complete any contract he is given.
He receives a contract for the death of New York Governor Tim Patton and completes the job quickly and efficiently. As the heat from the governor's death begins to trickle out, Sicarius finds himself entangled in an international drug-smuggling operation, of which Governor Patton was a key member.
Russian crime lord Kirill Krishnov soon learns of the blow to his drug empire from the governor's death and retaliates in full force.
Sicarius must not only fight for his own life but for the life of everyone who is dear to him.

The love story was a bit too mushy for my liking as well as being wholly predictable, lacking the twists, turns and unexpected corkscrew turns that are the hallmarks of a good book with a romantic twist. At the end of the day, the genres lacked balance and what starts as action swiftly devolves into mushy romance.
Altogether an average story with a good narration.
Good start but I didn't enjoy the middle

The stories within this main story arc are straightforward and simplistic, easy to follow and quick to read. Characterisation is basic, reliant on flashback remembrances to give solidity and motive to the main protagonists and neither John or Sky every become fully three dimensional living beings. (despite the occasional emotional flicker). Even the narration by Todd Waites , with personalized voices for each protagonist, failed to bring them to live although his well intoned reading made the listening a pleasure.
Even though it is flawed, The F.I.R.M. is good basic read for those who enjoy stories from the assassin's point of view. And the ending, though the book is complete in itself, leaves a clear opening for the second in a series. The world is full of a**h*les who need to die.
