About this listen
Rollicking, no-holds-barred account of New Order's entire history.
Two acclaimed albums and an upcoming US tour - Joy Division had the world at their feet. Then, on the eve of that tour, the band’s troubled lead singer, Ian Curtis, killed himself. The next time they got together, they were a new band.
That band was New Order - their label was Factory Records; their club, The Haçienda. Their distinctive sound paved the way for the dance music explosion that followed, earning them the reputation as one of the most influential bands of their generation and changing the course of popular music.
Following on from his best-selling titles The Haçienda and Unknown Pleasures, Peter Hook has written a rollicking, no-holds-barred account of the band's entire history. Substance is packed with never-before-seen detail, discographies and technical information. This is possibly the most entertaining memoir ever written by a British musician.

The honesty.
some of the geek alerts were a bit long and tedious. but it's a minor quibble

Very Enjoyable
Very enjoyable as both a Joy Division and New Order fan Pete's stories were a great insight

Nice to know Peter got his spanners checked
Thanks to Hooky I play the bass, quite badly. Not sure that he should have a shed.

Totally Hooked
I wasn't a huge New Order fan but knew enough to know it was going to be an interesting listen.... Peter Hook open came across as arrogant years ago so was fascinating to get his warts n all approach to his time in and out of the band.... at times I was sympathetic and shocked at his behaviour... but the best thing is.. he never apologises or says he was proud of what he did he just give his point of view and often says to the listener that maybe he was wrong etc... you really felt he was having a one to one with you throughout which is hard to get on audio books.
if you are going to listen to anything this year.... do not go past this one.
loved the geek parts and the timelines ... flowed perfectly with the overall story...
brilliant and I didn't want it to end but like his time with the band ... it had to.
Well done Hooky you made me pick up and listen to a lot of your songs both with New Order and your own bands...

Geeky, funny, eye opening and stunning
Only really started listening to NO recently so I’ve found this book a fascinating listen hearing all the music geeky info and touring chaos. With each album release in the book I listen to the album to really understand the vibe.
Never had an idea NO were such a hard shagging and drug taking band as well as all the internal falling outs.
The bar has been well and truly raised for band biographies
A truly amazing listen
Well done Hooky

1 vs 3 is never fair
Great follow up to Peter's Joy Division book. He just seems more honest than the other three in New Order and clearly they were ganging up on him (led by Barney Sumner).
I would have left out the annoying "Geek Alert" sections (I think we can gather what a "Spud-U-Like" is...) as his voice was annoying but the main story was excellent.
