Summary

Roller derby, board games, and love collide in this roommates-to-lovers romance.

Roxie Esposito just opened a board game café in San Francisco and should be basking in success. Instead, she's picking out shards from her last relationship and handling her perpetually drunk mother, both of which strain her finances and fuel the need for a roommate.

Melody Roberts finally got the promotion she'd been aiming for - across the country in San Francisco. The perfect escape from her stagnant life and the toxic relationship with her now ex-boyfriend.

The moment Mel answers Roxie's ad for a roommate, the connection between them is explosive, warm, and real - everything they've both been longing for. Between horror movie marathons, board game nights, and deep talks, Mel and Roxie are falling for each other hard. Except the only problem with romance is they both seem to fail every single time, and when the grenades of exes, family drama, and their own insecurities drop, neither will escape unscathed.

Roll the dice on romance at Tabletop Tavern...

bit too slow burn sometimes but great series start

Excellent narration. The very slow burn fit the abusive situations Roxie had lived through and Melody's issues with het ex. However I did struggle with the amount of mutual pining, which I have with all books of that type. The geeky boardgame found family is really great.

I enjoyed this.

This is the first F/F romance I’ve listened to (I’ve eyeball read a couple of others). I’ve actually had the ebook of this for a while and just never made time to read it. I’ve loved Kat McIntyre’s MM books so I’m glad I was given the opportunity to listen to this for review. There’s a bit of angst due to both of the MCs insecurities. There’s also family drama for a secondary character that isn’t entirely resolved but he gets his own book. You can enjoy this series out of order - that’s how I read them - but you might enjoy them a little more if you read them in order. If you’ve been reluctant to try F/F romance this one is a little spicy but it’s a great story so I wouldn’t hesitate to give it a go.

Slow burn at the board game cafe

Roxie and Mel meet when Mel rents Roxie’s second room. The two are immediately attracted to each other, but neither pursues anything initially. This is a slow burn, with a couple of steamy scenes towards the end of the book.

What I loved:
- Roxie owns a board game cafe.
- Both women are independent and successful in their careers.
- Mel’s family.
- Found family. ❤️

What didn’t work for me:
Miscommunication, mutual pining, repetitive insecurities, low self esteem, evil exes on both sides.

Tension, chemistry and steam!

A great series opener with a wide range of characters you can't help but love!
I really enjoyed the push and pull between Roxie and Mel. There's a lot of will they, won't they but done in a way that builds on their friendship and connection so they have no choice but to come together!

I loved getting to know this quirky found family and can't wait to read all their stories!

Brilliant start to the series!

In this book we follow Roxie who owns a board game café and Mel, her new roommate. The two girls become friends and soon their feelings start growing. It’s a sweet and geeky slow burn romance that I really enjoyed. Both characters were well developed and likable, I had no problem connecting with them and rooting for them and their happy ending. Roxie and Mel had wonderful chemistry and I just really love books where the main couple starts as friends. I also loved the found family theme of the book, the side characters were great and very interesting.
I loved how the narrator voiced Roxie and Mel and brought their story to life! Great audio quality and beautiful voice.

Roommates to lovers done well

I’ve listened to a few Katherine McIntyre audiobooks before, but this is the first sapphic romance I’ve heard from her. I have to say, I loved it! I related to Roxie – working like crazy and struggling to find a romantic partner. She’s living her dream – she’s opened a space where patrons play games and eat great food – the Tabletop Tavern. How awesome is that? But running a small business is insane. She’s got two great business partners. Fantastic. She has a vampire ex who drains her from energy, money, and self-esteem repeatedly. That ex is always just around the corner. Oh, and she’s got a very toxic relationship with her alcoholic mother.

Like I said, I can relate to a lot of what’s going on in her life.

Then there’s Melody. Mel moved across the country for a job. San Fransico’s expensive, so finding a room to rent is awesome. Being attracted to her new roommate is totally unexpected. But the more Mel tries to make subtle passes at Roxie, the more Roxie dives into their friendship. She brings Mel along to events, to the café, and eventually to roller derby. Mel loves roller derby and she’s so damn good at it. The women bond some more. Mel becomes integral to Roxie’s life and vice versa. They even start to build a relationship.

Then it all falls apart.

Man, my heart broke for these two. I wanted them together! But I also understood what was keeping them apart.

Fortunately, this is a Katherine McIntyre romance – so I got my happy ending. But man, did Roxie and Mel ever have to work for it!

Kudos to Amy Kennedy for the fantastic narration. I loved everything about this book.
