About this listen
Ancient alien technology. Secret histories. And squids. In space.
Max is completing a survey in the barren, frozen north of planet Grailliyn, when he makes a startling discovery. There's a high-tech pod buried beneath the ice, and inside the pod is a young woman. She speaks his language, but with a strange accent.
The two are barely past awkward introductions when they are attacked. Max and his new friend are forced to flee. The worst part? They don't even know who is trying to kill them, or why.
Now, with assassins on their tail, the duo must find a way off the planet without blowing their cover. And then, if they can do that without getting eaten by space monsters, they might just find out the truth about their world.
Starship Relic is book one of the Lost Colony Uprising Trilogy, a sci-fi space opera adventure with spaceships, alien contact, deep conspiracies, wise-cracking characters, and lots of pew-pew (space battle action).
Content rating: all ages, teen and up. Minimal language.
©2020 Darcy Troy Paulin (P)2020 Darcy Troy PaulinIn order for Max to become a man, like everybody in the world that has come before him, Max must first complete a survey. Instead of choosing a simple trip to warmer climates like his friends, he chooses to recreate the journey that took his parents lives, with one exception he will complete it for them. All he has is his mother's journal to follow, camping gear and cold weather gear and his loyal team of crabs to pull the sleigh across the ice, other than that it is just him and the cold wilderness. That is until he comes across a strange object half buried in the ice and he would have missed that if it was for the flashing bright lights. After days of struggling to free the form the hard packed ice someone comes out of no where and starts shooting at him. Taking the pod with him he embarks on an adventure he never thought possible and one that will take him over rough seas and even into outer space. All the while being hunted by a ruthless killer determined to kill him at any cost. The reason is the pod Max found wasn't empty and the girl that wakes up from a very deep slumber could contain lots of unanswered questions. Questions like what really happened to Max's parents? If only she could remember. Is her waking up from a deep sleep just luck or will it have a fairly tell ending?
I liked the narrator and I think he is a big reason why I liked the audio version more than the book. I just loved the sound effects that went with it, especially Dozers chittering (not sure if that is a word but it sounds right for the noise the crab made).
I was given this free review copy audiibook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
