Good ending to the book

Although this book might not be the end of the series. It is however a good place to end the story of Callum Wells. He is now a pretty strong mage and shouldn't really have much struggles and this was already reflected before the time skip when he casually ended multiple strong enemies such as a fairy prince and Vampire lord. now after the time skip he should be much stronger and mostly unmatched.

if the story continues, I believe it would be around the new world and his children. All in all this is a good series to read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in fantasy and magic.

i have enjoyed the story and the characters, especially the inventive ways the main character uses technology and portals.

Very mediocre

There’s a lot of trash in this genre out there and thankfully this is way above average, but that doesn’t say very much. The story itself is ok, although a bit unimaginative. After Callum establishes his power basis things become extremely predictable. I think a couple of books would have been enough for this series.

But my main gripe is with how Lucy and Alex are portrayed. It’s like the author has some fairytale concept of how a wife should be, from the 50s. She doesn’t have a personality other than acting as Callum’s voice of reason and reassurance, or his personal soundboard. Can’t count the number of times her role is just providing an excuse for Callum to explain himself and then say “Yeah, I guess.”

And Alex as a child is no more than a human onomatopoeia. All he ever does is say “Like bacon!” or “Yay gravity tag!”. I’m pretty sure the author has never met an actual child. They are a lot deeper than the occasional exclamation of joy and an excuse for the wife to stay at home.

The performance seemed good at first, but after hearing other voice actors here in Audible, I can tell how limited the Frazier's range is. He always ends his sentences on a trailing note, which gets annoying after a while. His falsettos for women are particularly irritating. And his deep intimidating voices aren’t much. In fact there’s a lot of times when the narrator describes something about the dialogue (like a laughter or a second speaker talking at the same time) and no effort is made to implement it. Maybe Frazier was just not paid enough to make an effort, maybe there was a deadline to meet, but regardless, there’s little contributing to immersion in the recordings.
