About this listen

This book has two stories for children that deal with the central theme of greed. Following the tradition of Panchtantra, both the stories have forests as their settings with animals as characters.

The first story, the titular 'Sookha Ghulab', is about a very beautiful but proud vixen, Bhoori. She is vain and self-indulgent and doesn’t want to marry anybody but a tiger. Everyone in the forest tries to convince her otherwise but she refuses to budge, and, as a result, she is eventually banished from the forest. With the dream of marrying a tiger in her eyes, she painstakingly travels to another famous forest, Sundervan. There she meets another vixen who promises to help her find a groom. Will Bhoori find the tiger of her dreams or will her greed lead her to something else?

The second story, 'Mama Garjo', is about a grief-stricken tiger who finds solace in letting little animals play with him. Although sometimes criticized for letting other animals forget their position in front of him, he stays calm and doesn’t let things bother him easily. He is friends with a vixen who persuades him to take her to a fair despite his reservations against the idea. Once there, she keeps pleading him to buy him things. Although unconvinced at first, he eventually gives in and hatches a plan to get her sweets without money by roaring on cue. This, however, only makes her greedy for more. Will the tiger figure out what the vixen is doing?
