Teknologiske fremskridt og moderne ideer er lige så stille ved at nå ud til det lille vestsjællandske sogn, og det sætter gang i en både spændende og skræmmende udvikling. Thorkild Gravlund (1879-1939) var en dansk forfatter og folkemindeforsker. I begyndelsen af 1900-tallet udstedte den anerkendte folkemindeforsker Axel Olrik en konkurrence om at skrive en folkekarakteristik om en dansk egn. Thorkild Gravlund vandt med sin skildring af hjemøen Reersø. Efterfølgende fulgte et langt og grundigt forfatterskab om det danske folk og land.
