I met Alessandra at a party. Tried to impress her. Was almost positive I was going to fail.
I think I said something along the lines of, “I’m a Goat called Fish who’s hung like a bull - but not really. I’m actually pretty average.” Smooth. I know. Try not to be jealous.
When she laughed - and I mean, really laughed - I knew she wasn’t like the other girls I’d been meeting on tour. Hell, she wasn’t even in the same stratosphere as those fangirls and gold-diggers.
At one point during the party, Alessandra said, “There’s nothing like a girl’s first love.” I knew she was talking about the first smash hit by my band, 22 Goats. Alessandra said it was the first song she’d heard by us and it “hit her like a ton of bricks”. Ironic, seeing as how I was having the same reaction from being in her presence.
I made it my mission to impress her. Give her the kiss of a lifetime that night. But since I’ve always been the dude with zero game, nothing went according to plan.
I’m not giving up, though. I’m going to win this girl over. I’m done sitting on the sidelines, watching the bad boy getting the girl. This time, the nice guy will finish first. Even if it’s the last thing he’ll do.

The audio was incredibly done, with wonderful narration performances from Andi Arendt and Tim Paige. I wish all romance audio books were this well done. And the songs... sigh. Totally smitten with Smitten.

I love a good Beta hero and Smitten delivered on that. It’s this adorable, swoony, no angst, first love story. Fish and Alessandra are the cutest as they get to know each other through long phone conversations and work through the awkwardness of bring physically intimate with someone for the first time. The way that they love and support each other is *chef’s kiss* I will be re-listening to this one all the time.
Narration: Tim Paige is absolutely perfectly cast as Fish and I love his narration. Andi Ardnt is also one of my favorite narrators.
Bonus is that Lauren Rowe has stepped up her audio game and fully produced songs to go along with the books in the Reed Rivers universe so you get Fish and Alessandra’s hit “Smitten” as part of this audiobook.’

Neither Alessandra nor Matthew seemed to have any flaw at all, and it became a little boring. Sure, I can do without angsty drama but there needs to be at least some tension and conflict. There was barely any of that here. The little there was was resolved quickly. Matthew just knew Alessandra would be talented without listening to her, and guess what, she was. So incredibly so that every celebrity in the vicinity wanted to be part of her rising career even before she released her first song. As for Matthew, he was perfect boyfriend material from the start—even though he had been rejected his whole life. And talk about insecurities !
I wasn’t much troubled with the participation of characters from other books by the same author. They were well introduced and I was never confused.
Beware, cuteness overload ahead. The interactions between Fish and Alessandra were sweet and adorable. Until they weren’t—they sure bring the sexy ! It wasn’t exactly a slow burn, but there was a good amount of wait in their relationship. Once they become physical, it’s hot. Very hot. Though it felt a bit out of character for Alessandra.
The audio is a little treasure. Both narrators are incredibly talented, and cherry on top… there are songs ! It’d have been a crime for a rock star romance not to have any. And they’re catchy. And the cute and the sexy I talked about above ? They deliver it plenty. A nice book, but an even greater audiobook.
