About this listen

A British jockey, riding in Norway, has disappeared, and with him has gone a day's takings from the turnstiles of Oslo racecourse. The Norwegian police have found no trace of him, nor have the British, and the case is being filed as just one more unsolved theft. David Cleveland, investigator for the Jockey Club, is a last resort. He goes without much expectation, and finds himself in waters as dark and deep as the fjords.

I hasn’t read this one for a long time, listening to it on audible was like reconnecting with an old friend. Very well read by Tony Britton, engaging story, a little dated (it’s 50 years old) but nothing to detract from the detective story. Very enjoyable

Enjoyable Dick Francis story

I do enjoy Dick Francis's novels and have read this one before. it was a long time ago, so it was quite fresh to me this time. Set mainly in Norway, it was a bitt different to his normal books. An enjoyable storyline. The narration was good but of its time.

Great.

This time set in the frozen North. Tony Britton makes an OK job of Norwegian accents. Good listen.

Classic Francis

Wonderfully narrated with charm and vigour. A thrilling ride once again! Thoroughly enjoying Tony Britton's accents (which I hadn't realised were so prevalent in Francis novels!)

Fast paced and gripping!

Where does Slay-Ride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is among the best Dick Francis novels that I have listened to, with twists and turns all along the way.

What other book might you compare Slay-Ride to, and why?

Slay-ride is a typical Francis novel, including the racing world and a detective, but set in Norway.

Have you listened to any of Tony Britton’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Tony Britton is the best at reading Dick Francis novels, getting all the tensions over in a very pleasant voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The twist of fate, for a turn coat was especially well done in the novel

Typical Francis

A bit slow catching up on all the names but got there in the end

A bit slow

this is not one of Dicks finest efforts - never really gets going and the characters do not
really shine true as in other Dick Frances story's

Tony Brittonis as good as ever -story is not so
