About this listen

THE INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON BEHIND THE COSMERE

****

'We must not cower in the dark because we're afraid of the spark within us. The answer is not to put out the spark, but to learn to control it'

Spensa's world has been under attack for hundreds of years. An alien race called the Krell leads onslaught after onslaught from the sky in a never-ending campaign to destroy humankind. Humanity's only defense is to take to their ships and fight the enemy in the skies. Pilots have become the heroes of what's left of the human race.

Spensa has always dreamed of being one of them; of soaring above Earth and proving her bravery. But her fate is intertwined with her father's - a pilot who was killed years ago when he abruptly deserted his team, placing Spensa's chances of attending flight school somewhere between slim and none.

No one will let Spensa forget what her father did, but she is still determined to fly. And the Krell just made that a possibility. They've doubled their fleet, making Spensa's world twice as dangerous . . . but their desperation to survive might just take her skyward . . .

I really enjoyed this book and just could not stop listening. The story and plot was very good indeed. It was helped by the superb narration by Sophie Alfred. Her tone and varied voices for the differing characters really helped in the visualisation of this book. Thank you and can’t wait to read the sequel which I have already purchased. 👍👍👍👍👍. 10 stars.

Fantastic Book

excellent

Slow burner in the beginning, describing in great detail a post-apocalyptic group of humans and their customs. But at the end, dammit, Sanderson had me again.

Solid scifi epic, in the making.

I am becoming a total and unashamed fan of Brandon.

I am quickly devouring anything he has written.

This is written in a slightly different voice than usual but is in keeping with the fact that it is a YA series.

A new narrator for me too and she read brilliantly well.

Another great Brandon Sanderson

I admit that I was a little suspect about this book, having not read much sci-fi or fantasy genre. The ones I have read generally fit either take too long to describe the world or rattle on at such a pace that it’s hard to keep up.

This is neither with a well paced story that is full of space engagements, fights, humour and coming of age narrative. MBOT a computer AI is particularly funny.

I really enjoyed this book and found it easy listening, with an excellent narrator.

Well worth a listen.

A great teen Sci-Fi story

Not my usual selection, as I enjoy sword play. How ever I quickly became emersed in the story and its performance. I enjoyed it emmensely and look forward to the next book in the saga.

A great change.

I have a lot of love for this story, equal parts adventure, mystery and a story about growing up and friendship.

Sophie Aldred's performance took me a chapter or so to get used to (it felt at first to me like Siri was reading me a story) but I definitely got into it fairly quickly after that. her voices for characters were great and even though I was surprised by the accent chosen for one character I couldn't imagine any other voice for them by the end.

As usual Sanderson's writing was superb and the characters, setting and plot kept me gripped the entire way through, and like with any good book I was sad when it came to an end.

Here's hoping more entries in the series come along sooner rather than later.

A fun adventure from start to finish!

Sounds a bit aimed at teens to begin with but does draw you in alot.

Keeps you hooked

The book and narration are decent and reads like a YA novel, no bad thing however. The main character is written intentionally brattish but matures towards the midpoint of the story. The plot and final act are engaging. Well narrated throughout.
